OVER THE RHINE Returns to the Lincoln, 12/14

Described as a "sometimes pensive, often poetic, and continually progressive folk-pop ensemble," the Cincinnati-based, husband-and-wife team of Over the Rhine has been making music for more than 20 years. Fronted by Karin Bergquist's torchy, devil-may-care voice brimming with Midwestern soul, the band is led by brilliant keyboardist and songwriter Linford Detweiler who can seamlessly move from avant garde jazz to whisper-quiet folk subtleties to flat out rock.

BWW Reviews: The Keeton Theatre's Enchanting INTO THE WOODS Packs An Emotional Wallop

In fact, director Kate Adams and musical director Ginger Newman have crafted Nashville's own lovely and, I daresay, star-studded version of the musical which simply proves once again that Into the Woods is one of the most enchanting, most entertaining and most moving examples of contemporary musical theater at its best

BWW Reviews: Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis Jazz Up the Simon Songbook at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall

Paul Simon may be 70 years old, but he's still marvelous after all these years. One of America's greatest troubadours once again displayed his timeless artistry at last week's three-concert benefit run at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, which featured the great Wynton Marsalis and his 14-piece JLC Orchestra joining Simon's eight-piece band for a jazzy and sometimes swinging interpretation of 14 songs from the massive Paul Simon songbook.

Photo Flash: Jane Monheit Brings ANYTHING GOES to Birdland!

On Monday, March 26, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present jazz vocalist Jane Monheit in 'Jane Monheit Swings Cole Porter's Anything Goes.' The evening was the creation of arranger/bass player MaryAnn McSweeney, who also brought the wildly popular 'Avenue Q Swings' to the Birdland stage several years ago.

BWW Reviews: Tennessee Rep Serves Up Well-Acted SUPERIOR DONUTS at TPAC'S Johnson Theatre

Despite their best efforts, director Lauren Shouse and her amazingly talented cast just can't give Tracy Lett's Superior Donuts the emotional heft-the literary gravitas-that the playwright so mightily struggles for in his sitcomesque script which pales in comparison to his supposed masterpiece, August: Osage County. Clearly, it's the success of that earlier, heavily-decorated and awarded, Pulitzer Prize-winning play that most theatre companies are invoking as they attempt to sell tickets to this decidedly lesser work, hoping to capitalize on its success in hoodwinking an unsuspecting audience.

BWW Reviews: Nashville Ballet Revives 'The NUTCRACKER Of Your Dreams' through 12/18

If there is an onstage moment more breathtaking, more purely theatrical, than the one during Nashville's Nutcracker when the green upstage curtain falls at the end of the exquisitely danced "Waltz of the Flowers," I simply cannot recall it nor would I want to-for it is during that brief respite from an evening filled with stunning artistry and the revelatory staging of this time-honored holiday classic that you find yourself thoroughly done in, overwhelmed by the riches of the production that once again proves Nashville Ballet the city's leading arts entity.
