Ravinia Festival Announces 2012 Season: Idina Menzel, Barbara Cook & More!

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The summer boasts a variety of music's legends from Philip Glass to James Taylor, along with 43 debuts, including Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel, reggae master Jimmy Cliff, classic rocker Santana, Grammy-and-Oscar sensation Esperanza Spalding, and Musical America's "conductor of the year" Jaap van Zweden. Ravinia Music Director James Conlon celebrates the 35th anniversary of his own festival debut as his contract is extended through 2014.

Caldwell Theatre Company Starts WORKING

Caldwell Theatre Company is set to launch the revamped, updated, and contemporized musical Working, featuring the music of Tony winners, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell),Lin Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) and Grammy winner James Taylor. The original source material for this unabashedly American musical is based on the novel Working by Studs Terkel.

David Grover to Perform Passover Concert at The Jewish Museum, 4/1

The Jewish Museum will present a Passover concert for families by David Grover with Grover's Gang, on Sunday, April 1 at 2 pm. Singer/guitarist David Grover's folk sound for the 21st century will entertain adults and children alike. Children can celebrate freedom and dance to such songs as The Matzah Song, Go Down Moses and Man Come Down to Egypt. Grover will be joined by special guest Meredith Wright, founder of the kids' music band Sweetbeatz, adding her jazzy voice to the holiday music. Grover's Gang also features singer/bassist Kathy Jo Grover, singer/drummer/guitarist Mike Sacco, and Charlie Tokarz on woodwinds.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and Sh-K-Boom Records will present NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation winner Dawn Cantwell in Concert. Dawn Cantwell will perform at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:30pm. The concert is directed by Travis Griesler, with musical direction by Alexander Rovang. Tickets, priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door, are currently available at: www.joespub.com or by calling 212-967-7555.

WORKING Opens in Hollywood, 3/16

WORKING, the musical by Studs Terkel, Stephen Schwartz, and Nina Faso will open March 16, 2012 at The Production Company's The Lex Theatre in Hollywood's Theatre Row District.

Allman Bros, Glen Campbell Receive Recording Academy Special Merit Awards

The Recording Academy announced its Special Merit Awards recipients today, and this year's selections are: Allman Brothers Band, Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, the Memphis Horns, Diana Ross and Gil Scott-Heron as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients; Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs and Rudy Van Gelder as Trustees Award honorees; and Celemony and Roger Nichols as Technical GRAMMY Award honorees.

Bateman, Bonnar, Lloyd And Lynch Join Cast For THE DUCHESS OF MALFI At The Old Vic

Tom Bateman, Mark Bonnar, Harry Lloyd and Finbar Lynch join Eve Best in John Webster's great Jacobean tragedy, The Duchess of Malfi, directed by Jamie Lloyd. Eve Best last appeared at The Old Vic in London and on Broadway opposite Kevin Spacey in A Moon for the Misbegotten in the 2006/2007 Season. The Duchess of Malfi will open at The Old Vic on 28 March 2012, previewing from 17 March.
