The 2012 American Film Market (AFM), set for October 31-November 7 in Santa Monica will screen more than 420 motion pictures, including 77 world premieres and 306 market premieres, for thousands of film buyers and industry professionals from more than 70 countries. Jonathan Wolf, AFM Managing Director and Executive Vice President of the Independent Film & Television Alliance, made the announcement today.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, RENT and Private Practice star Taye Diggs and R&B music artist Trey Songz have joined the Fox Searchlight film Baggage Claim, based on the novel by David E. Talbert. Filming is underway this month in Los Angeles.

According to Deadline.com, Ben Toth and Sam Forman have signed on to write the music and lyrics for the Broadway-bound SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE Musical. Previously announced Lonny Price will direct the show, which is set to have its world premiere at The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Charles Dillingham, Interim Executive Director) in June, 2013.

BroadwayWorld can exclusively report that Kevin Navayne, known for his role as Detective Ray Jackson in CSI: NY, is slated to make his Broadway debut as Miles Davis in a Broadway play in about the jazz legend. Directed and produced by Don Cheadle, the show is aiming for a short run on Broadway in 2013.

RENT owned the 90s. Yes, indeed, RENT represents an entire generation in its sound, style, ideals and overall feeling, mood and tone and the subsequent success of the many members of the simply astounding assortment of talents that comprised the original cast acts as evidence that the show may have had the cast of the decade, as well.
