Tamara Tunie and Hamish Linklater Co-Host 2014 Obie Awards Tonight; Harvey Fierstein and More to Present!

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, will hold the 59th Annual Obie Awards tonight, Monday, May 19, 2014, at Webster Hall in the East Village, 125 East 11th Street. The Obies will be co-hosted by the distinguished actress Tamara Tunie, whose many memorable stage performances include the lead in the Public Theater's Troilus and Cressida, while her film and television credits include Devil's Advocate, FLIGHT, City Hall, Snake Eyes, Eve's Bayou, The Caveman's Valentine, The Red Road, 'Law and Order: SVU', '24', 'Sex and The City', 'NYPD Blue'.

Bill Pullman, Marjani Forte, George Hirsch & More to Lead Arena Stages' HEALING WARS

A pioneer in the world of contemporary dance, MacArthur "Genius Grant" recipient Liz Lerman's new theatrical dance piece Healing Wars examines healing in wartime, the nature of damage that continues when battles are over and the question of how individuals and societies absorb the pain and impact of war. The production features a company of performers in multiple roles, including Marjani Forte, George Hirsch, Tamara Hurwitz Pullman, Ted Johnson, Alli Ross, Samantha Speis, Keith A. Thompson, renowned stage and film actor Bill Pullman and a combat veteran to be announced at a later date. The limited engagement, world-premiere production of Healing Wars runs June 6 - June 29 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.

Estelle Parsons to Receive Lifetime Achievement Obie Award on 5/19

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, announced today that the Lifetime Achievement Award Obie will go to the esteemed ESTELLE PARSONS. The OBIE Awards Ceremony Will Be Co-hosted by Tamara Tunie and Hamish Linklater, and presented by Betsy Aidem, Harvey Fierstein, Lena Hall, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Andy Karl , David Bar Katz, Cristin Milioti , Kelli O'Hara , Lily Rabe and Stephen Trask.

BWW Interviews: Fringe Spotlight: ROMEO AND JULIET IN HELL

What would happen if, at the end of Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet woke up to discover they were stuck in their own Personal Hell, listening to Tony from West Side Story sing 'Maria' for eternity? And in order to escape, they'd need to suffer through a production of their life story performed by the other inhabitants of Hell - Shakespeare's dead characters. Matt Ritchey explores the story line in his new play Romeo and Juliet in Hell, featured at this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Roots and Wings Theatrical Bring Six New Shows to NYC, 5/14-18

For the seventh installment of the Duct Tape and A Dream Festival, Roots and Wings Theatrical will showcase six dynamic projects divided between two programs running in repertory May 14-18, 2014. The festival consists of a "Duct Tape" Program and a "Dream" Program. Each program has something to offer for all audiences. The festival is truly eclectic with plays written by emerging artists exploring a variety of subjects such as linguistics, death in the family, things you may have learned in your 20s, and modern adaptations of classics (see: Crutchfield's Pe[t]er Gynt inspired by Ibsen's Peer Gynt). The programs will play in rotation at Theatre 54 at 244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor, New York, New York 10019 for five days with 42 artists sharing the stage.
