As BroadwayWorld previously speculated, following a sold out, critically acclaimed and award-winning run Off-Broadway, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, the exhilarating new Kander & Ebb musical, will open on Broadway on Sunday, October 31 at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street). Previews will begin on Thursday, October 7.
The New York Times is reporting that producer Barry Weissler has said that The Scottsboro Boys will begin performances in October at the Lyceum Theater. No specific schedule has yet been announced however and the Times reports that 'While noting that plans could change, Mr. Weissler said in a phone interview that he and his colleagues believed the Beaux Arts style of the 107-year-old Lyceum -and its relatively intimate size for a musical, with 902 seats - with 'a good fit for a show that takes place in the 1930s and tells a story of rich history.'
Previews will begin today at Virginia's Signature Theatre for the world premiere musical Sycamore Trees written by Ricky Ian Gordon, the award-winning composer of the opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life with Albertine. A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.

I grew up looking forward to Friday nights, because that's when channel 30 would broadcast 'Chiller Theater', providing a burgeoning horror fan like myself with the chance to view all the creepy classics that sprang from the loins of Universal Studios during the 1930's and 40's. I was eleven years old when YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN played at the Westport cinema, and it was a treat to see my one of my favorite monsters lovingly parodied by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder. So, it was with much anticipation that I looked forward to seeing the musical version of this beloved comedy from my childhood, and I think it's generally a very entertaining show, filled with a veritable slew of familiar gags, as well as some outstanding performances.
