San Francisco Opera Announces Twelve Recipients of the 2016 Adler Fellowship

SAN FRANCISCO (October 12, 2015) –– San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald announced today the twelve recipients of the 2016 Adler Fellowship, a multi-year performance-oriented residency offering advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Adler Fellows are selected from the young artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program. This prestigious training program has nurtured the development of more than 150 young artists since its inception.

Jerome Kitzke to Perform Concert Series During Tribeca New Music Festival, 11/13

New York City, NY --- Marking the commencement of the 2015-16 Tribeca New Music festival, AN AMERICAN MAVERICK | JEROME KITZKE AT 60 celebrates composer-storyteller JEROME KITZKE in a two-night concert series November 13-14, 2015, at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Known for creating works that are uniquely and bracingly American, where freedom and ritual converge, Kitzke shares his career-long dedication to social justice and the human condition in this special program comprised of a dozen of his works composed between 1987 and 2015, including the world premiere of For Pte Tokahewin Ska. From the premier string quartet ETHEL and pianist Anthony de Mare to Hammond B-3 rising star Wil Smith and accordionist Guy Klucevsek, 26 of today's top contemporary artists will come together to perform and honor the inimitable musical language of Jerome Kitzke.

Orchestra of St. Luke's to Launch Five-Concert Season at Carnegie Hall, 10/29

Carnegie Hall presents Orchestra of St. Luke's in five concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage this season, starting on Thursday, October 29 at 8:00 p.m. with Principal Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado leading a program that includes Stravinsky's Suite No. 2; and Tchaikovsky's rarely heard Symphony No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 13, "Winter Daydreams." Also on the program is Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64 with soloist Christian Tetzlaff.

Susan Graham Performs with Mercury in Houston Tonight

Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Susan Graham returns to Texas, joining Mercury, under the baton of Artistic Director Antoine Plante, for an evening of opera arias and more tonight, September 19 at 8 PM at the Wortham Center's Cullen Theater.  Plante says, "For this special concert we are performing some of Susan's favorite arias from Purcell, Handel and Mozart. I'm really looking forward to working with such a gracious and unique artist and sharing this performance with our audience." 

Director Francesca Zambello to Receive San Francisco Opera Medal

Following the final curtain call for Friday's Opening Night performance of Verdi's Luisa Miller, San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley will award stage director Francesca Zambello with the San Francisco Opera Medal-the highest honor bestowed by the Company to an artistic professional.

Capitol Center for the Arts Sets MET: Live in HD Screenings for 2015-16

The Capitol Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that it will present 11 productions in next season's Met: Live in HD series, beginning with Verdi's Il Trovatore on Saturday, October 3, at 12:55pm. Single tickets for this series are on sale now for $26 Adults; $22 Seniors/Met/CCA Members; and $15 Students. Season subscriptions are also available at $234 Adults; $198 Seniors/Met/CCA Members; and $135 students.

Merola Opera Ends Summer with Grand Finale Performance Tonight

SAN FRANCISCO, July 20, 2015 – The Merola Opera Program's Summer Festival concludes with its 2015 artists performing in the Merola Grand Finale tonight, August 22 at 7:30 pm at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. Conductor Antony Walker will lead the orchestra and 2015 Merola Apprentice Stage Director Mo Zhou will stage the program, featuring works by Gounod, Bellini, Tchaikovsky, Jake Heggie, Nikolai, Verdi, Rossini, Humperdinck, Mascagni, and Offenbach. The performance is a culmination of the 12-week Merola Opera training program, and all 23 of the 2015 Merola singers will perform, under the coaching and direction of their fellow artists. A special artists' reception follows the Grand Finale (tickets sold separately).

Mercury's 2015-16 Season to Launch with Free Handel's Royal Fireworks Concert

Mercury's 2015-2016 season begins with Handel's iconic Music for the Royal Fireworks led by Artistic Director Antoine Plante on Saturday, August 29 at 8 PM at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. Brimming with exhilarating dance tunes and colorful sonorities, this suite reflects the fire and majesty of one of the world's greatest composers. And as a special treat the night will conclude with a live fireworks display in celebration of Mercury's fifteen anniversary season.
