Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, Christopher Haydon, today announces the cast for his production of the world premiere of Elinor Cook's Image of an Unknown Young Woman - Oliver Birch (Chorus), Susan Brown (Candace), Wendy Kweh (Nia), Emilie Patry (Chorus), Isaac Ssenbandeke(Chorus), Anjana Vasan (Leyla), Eileen Walsh (Yasmin) and Ashley Zhangazha (Ali). The production opens on 8 June, with previews from 4 June, and runs until 27 June.
After seeing the new INTO THE WOODS movie twice over the holidays, I posted on Twitter about how two of the songs had stuck with me. After a tweet conversation, my BWW colleague Jeff Walker and I decided to put our heads together to try and come up with a list of Sondheim's most hummable tunes. Due to overwhelming demand, and amidst extraordinary critical acclaim, St. Ann's Warehouse and the Donmar Warehouse have extended the American Premiere of the Donmar's all-female Julius Caesar, directed by Phyllida Lloyd. New York audiences will now have seven additional opportunities to see the production Ben Brantley of The New York Times calls "gripping and illuminating," adding, "This Julius Caesar generates a higher testosterone level than any I have seen."

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, an ensemble including Harriet Walter (Brutus), Frances Barber (Caesar), Jenny Jules (Cassius) and Cush Jumbo (Mark Antony) play prisoners and guards performing Shakespeare's great tragedy in the hard, grim surroundings of a women's prison.
'Sondheim: A Musical Tribute' was the title given to a benefit staged in March 1973. American Musical and Dramatic Academy and the National Hemophilia Foundation first wanted to honor Harold Prince, but he declined, so they chose Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim thought it would be 'merely a dinner,' but it was actually a full-scale production with 33 performers and a 30-piece orchestra, staged on the set of the then-running 'A Little Night Music' at the Shubert Theatre.
