The Arts Initiative and Miller Theatre at Columbia University are delighted to announce the 2nd annual MORNINGSIDE LIGHTS, which kicks off Saturday, September 14 with a week of daily free participatory arts workshops (through Friday, September 20), and culminates in a procession on Saturday, September 21. Dallas Opera Announces Chris Alexander to Stage CARMEN Starring Clementine Margaine in Debut

The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce that “theatrically masterly” (Seattle Times) German/American stage director Chris Alexander, has agreed to stage our season-opening production of Georges Bizet's CARMEN, starring French mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine in her American debut. Born in Provo, Utah but a life-long resident of Germany, Alexander recently received critical acclaim for his staging of Seattle Opera's production of Beethoven's Fidelio (Mr. Alexander is a favorite of opera audiences in the Pacific Northwest), as well as Cincinnati Opera's presentation of Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss earlier this summer.

The distinguished American pianist Ursula Oppens will perform Faure's Piano Quintet No. 1 in D Minor with the Cassatt Quartet at Music Mountain on Sunday afternoon, August 25th, at 3:00 p.m. at Gordon Hall, 225 Music Mountain Rd., Falls Village, CT. The program will also include works by Shostakovich and Beethoven.

This marks the return of the first classical-contemporary concert series on Governors Island, a place The New York Times has called a "Playground for the Arts." The aim of the Festival is simple: to present the highest quality live performances, and to bring free contemporary classical music to as many people as possible in a relaxed, fun, outdoor setting.

NBA TV will premiere a new episode of the critically-acclaimed Open Court, a roundtable discussion featuring a full cast of NBA TV and TNT commentators, on Tuesday, June 4, at 9 p.m. ET. Open Court: Legacies will feature candid discussions on a variety of legacies in the game including the impact of NBA Commissioner David Stern and players both past (Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal) and present (Miami's LeBron James).

The 'stunning' (New York Magazine) vocalist and globally-inspired composer Imani Uzuri teams up with composer and Numinous ensemble founder Joseph C. Phillips, Jr. to perform new works commissioned for this year's Ecstatic Music Festival,presented by Kaufman Music Center at Merkin Concert Hall. Uzuri will premiere an original multi-voice and multi-instrument musical suite, Placeless, performed by Imani Uzuri, Numinous, and featuring very special guests including harpist Brandee A. Younger. The compositions explore the expansive themes of home and “place” inspired by the Psalms, the writings of Sufi mystic and poet Rumi and the folk hymnody African-American Spirituals.
