Remember 1980s pop culture? Loud, garish and a bit tawdry? "Flashdance - The Musical" brings back all the tacky excess of that decade.

When adapting movies into Broadway musicals, it certainly helps to start with a movie that revolves around singing and dancing. Or, at least, a movie that includes some kind of singing or dancing as a major part of the story or plot. That way, adding more singing and dancing should at least have a solid, logical starting point. It would seem, then, that the movie Flashdance is a perfect choice. It's right there in the title. The whole movie revolves around…wait for it…dance! Unfortunately, the Broadway touring production that is visiting PPAC takes a promising start and turns it into a long, bloated and mostly boring slog through two hours at the theater.

FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL delivers on its promise of electrifying dance, but its story is forgettable and fails to inspire.

Judson Arts presents The Bonus Army, a classic American protest musical with a rousing score and lyrics by four-time Obie-winning composer Al Carmines, book by award-winning playwright David Epstein. Shakespeare fans can celebrate the Bard's birthday with a Brooklyn accent at Brave New World Repertory Theatre's acclaimed production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor (Terrace)" which, with a few minor adjustments, sets the comedy of the working classes in Brooklyn's Windsor Terrace in the Big Hair 1980s. The production re-imagines Falstaff as a befuddled mob boss and Mistress Ford and Mistress Page as the-real-housewives-of-Brooklyn-with an eye for mischief and an ear for the traditional Brooklyn accent of the time. Minor script changes turn the River Thames into the Gowanus Canal.
