Vassar Powerhouse's MURDER BALLAD Plays Added Workshop Performance Tonight, 7/29

Due to popular demand Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater is adding an additional workshop performance tonight, July 29 at 7:30pm of the new indie rock musical Murder Ballad by Julia Jordan & Juliana Nash, directed by Trip Cullman. The cast features Tony nominees Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange; Shrek: The Musical) and Will Swenson (Hair; Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as well as Dee Roscioli (Wicked) and Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot; Passing Strange).

Vassar & New York Stage and Film present the 28th Powerhouse Theater season workshop MURDER BALLAD, starring Tony nominees Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange; Shrek: The Musical) and Will Swenson (Hair; Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as well as Dee Roscioli (Wicked) and Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot; Passing Strange). The indie rock musical Murder Ballad is written by award-winning playwright Julia Jordan (Tatjana in Color; Sarah, Plain and Tall) and Juliana Nash (frontwoman for the indie rock band Talking to Animals), directed by Trip Cullman (Lonely, I'm Not; Assistance; A Small Fire). Ilana Levine & More Set for Powerhouse Theater's THE POWER OF DUFF, Now thru 7/29

Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater previously announced casting updates for the season, including Ilana Levine (Jake's Women, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, The Last Night of Ballyhoo), who joins Dominic Fumusa, Greg Kinnear, and Jennifer Westfeldt in the cast of the second Mainstage production of The Power of Duff by Stephen Belber, directed by Peter DuBois (7/18-29).

Uptown Players' PRIDE PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL Runs 9/6-15

Uptown Players, a professional theatre group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its programming for the 2nd annual Dallas Pride Performing Arts Festival. From September 6 - 15, 2012, Uptown Players will present a 10-day festival of plays, musicals and cabaret acts celebrating Dallas Gay Pride.

Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater announces casting updates for the season, including Griffin Dunne (After Hours, An American Werewolf in London) and Samantha Mathis (33 Variations, Pump Up the Volume) who join the cast of Fires Are Confusing by Eva Anderson, Will Berson, and Zach Helm, created by Teatro de Facto. Molly Ranson, Tracee Chimo and More Set for Roundabout's BAD JEWS

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the cast for the next Roundabout Underground production Bad Jews, a new play by Joshua Elias Harmon, directed by Daniel Aukin, featuring Tracee Chimo (Daphna), Philip Ettinger (Jonah), Molly Ranson (Melody) & Michael Zegen (Liam).

American Lyric Theatre to Receive $20,000 NEA Art Works Grant

American Lyric Theater has been selected by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a $20,000 grant to support its Composer Librettist Development Program (CLDP), a full-time resident artist program for emerging opera composers and librettists. Artists are selected through an open application process to participate in the tuition-free program that provides professional training by renowned and respected artists including composer-librettist Mark Adamo, composer Anthony Davis, librettist Michael Korie, and dramaturg Cori Ellison.
