The George London Foundation for Singers has been honoring, supporting, and presenting the finest young opera singers in the U.S. and Canada since 1971.
Following a string of engagements in Russia and Armenia, Stephen Costello – star of back-to-back productions at the Metropolitan Opera earlier this year – returns New York to headline the company's free annual summer recital series in the city's parks. At Central Park SummerStage (June 12) and Brooklyn Bridge Park (June 14), the Tucker Award-winning tenor joins fellow Met stars soprano Susanna Phillips and mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong for a program of favorite arias and duets, accompanied by pianist Dan Saunders. As Opera News noted in a recent “Spotlight” double-page spread, “the all-American tenor” is now “at the top of his game.”
In its seventh summer season, Russian Opera Workshop presents Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades (June 27, 28 & 29) and rarely performed Rusalka (August 1, 2 & 3), a bel canto inspired lyric opera by Alexander Dargomyzhsky. Other events include a series of master classes and concerts of Russian Romances.
The 2017 Metropolitan Summer Recital Series will once again bring free outdoor recitals featuring rising young stars of the opera world to New Yorkers in all five boroughs. The series, now in its ninth year, is presented in collaboration with City Parks Foundation's SummerStage Festival and will feature six free concerts between June 12 and June 24.

Meanwhile, the tenor may already be seen at the Met, channeling Frank Sinatra as the Duke of Mantua in Michael Mayer's Vegas setting of Verdi's Rigoletto (Jan 20-Feb 4), to which, last year, the New York Times found his "bright tenor … perfectly suited."

There's some famous and gorgeous music in Gounod's ROMEO ET JULIETTE—Juliet's waltz, Romeo's “Ah, leve-toi, soleil” and a number of duets —but this is definitely not one of those operas where the title characters can take turns with the showpieces but never look each other in the eye.
