New Federal Theatre to Stage 50th Anniversary Production of IN WHITE AMERICA

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre kicks off its 47th season a rare revival of Martin Duberman's In White America, not seen in NYC for 50 years! In White America, directed by Charles Maryan, will begin performances October 15th, with opening night set for October 29th at the Castillo Theater (543 West 42nd Street). This limited Off-Broadway engagement will continue through November 15th only.

AWAKE & SING to Run 9/26-11/29 at Odyssey Theatre

Gritty, passionate, funny and heartbreaking, Awake and Sing! by Clifford Odets continues to resonate 80 years after its 1935 premiere by the Group Theatre. Director Elina de Santos and lead actress Marilyn Fox return to the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble with a 20th anniversary revival of the smash Odyssey production that ran for nine months in 1994-95. Also returning from that production are Richard Fancy and Dennis Madden; the three will be joined onstage by David Agranov, Robert Lesser, Allan Miller, James Morosini, Melissa Paladino and Gary Patent. Awake and Sing! opens at the Odyssey Theatre on Sept. 26.

I AM SALOME Begins Tonight at Access Theater

In this World Premiere of I Am Salome, award-winning director Alexandra Siladi pieces together a unique version of the classic titular character based on the innovative work of American author/playwright Charles Mee. With a troupe of six actors portraying the iconic and dangerous female temptress, Salome - the original femme fatale - Siladi creates a theatrical collage that depicts myriad Salomes found throughout history. This provocative interpretation explores from a female perspective why sex is perpetually and inextricably linked to danger.

Winners of Samuel French's 40th Annual Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival Announced!

Samuel French has announced the winners of the 2015 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's leading short play competition. The six winning plays were presented in a Showcase on Sunday, August 9th at the conclusion of the week-long festival at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company). These plays will be published, and available for licensing by Samuel French in the 40th Annual edition of its Off Off Broadway Plays collection:

William Hugel Double-Bill MEDUSA and THE ODDITY Set for TNC's Dream Up Festival, 8/31-9/10

In 'Medusa' and 'The Oddity' (medusaandtheoddity.wordpress.com), playwright William Hugel takes an impressionistic look at the stigma of mental illness and the declining power of women in society. The plays, directed by Chad Chenail, will have their world premieres August 31 to September 10 in Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival 2015.

BWW Reviews: Actor James Sherman Shines in His THE BEN HECHT SHOW

The West Coast Premiere of The Ben Hecht Show, ably directed by Dennis Zacek, showcases the charismatic performance of James Sherman in the titular role. In The Ben Hecht Show, playwright Sherman has written many a witty line ('She didn't have any anti-Semitic germs.') and dropped many a famous name (Moss Hart, Leonard Bernstein, Paul Muni, Stella Adler, Edward G. Robinson, Sidney Lumet, to name a few).

Jeffrey Harmon Smith Brings AUDITION SONGS to The Duplex Tonight

Jeffrey Harmon Smith, an escapee from the legal profession, brings his inimitable style to songs from the theatre and pop music scenes. JEFFREY HARMON SMITH! 'AUDITION SONGS' is set for The Duplex Cabaret Theater, located at 61 Christopher Street (at the corner of 7th Avenue) tonight, August 6th, 7:00PM.

RHONDA BADONDA: THE ADVENTURES OF A GIRL WITH A PAIN IN HER BRAIN Comes to VanFringe, Sept 10-20

Writer and actor Rhonda S. Musak brings the world premiere of Rhonda Badonda: The Adventures of a Girl with a Pain in Her Brain to the Vancouver Fringe Festival. This funny and moving piece takes the audience on a triumphant, auto-biographical journey through the trials and tribulations of being different, and ultimately to self-discovery and healing. This touchingly personal tale is directed by Gareth Hendee and runs as part of the Vancouver Fringe Festival, September 10-20, 2015 at the False Creek Gym.

Attic Theater Stages THE DREAMER EXAMINES HIS PILLOW, Beginning Tonight at The Flea

The Attic Theater Company presents John Patrick Shanley's (pictured, left) the dreamer examines his pillow, directed by Laura Braza. The first official revival of the play since its premiere in 1986, the dreamer examines his pillow will play a strictly-limited Off-Broadway engagement at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, Tribeca) Saturday, July 25th through Saturday, August 15th. The Opening Night is tonight, July 30th at 7 PM.
