In tonight's episode of American Idol, the top 12 got to take a stab at one of the most popular themes in the history of the show- song's from the year they were born. And this episode marked the very first live performance episode (no fake outs this time).

Last week, for the first time ever, studio versions of the full-length songs performed by Season 10's Top 13 finalists went on sale exclusively on the iTunes Store as a compilation album, and the release was a Top 10 seller on the iTunes album chart. This week, the 'American Idol Top 12 Season 10' album compilation will go on sale once again exclusively on the iTunes Store at 10pm PST following tonight's 'American Idol.' Individual songs will also be available for sale.

The Paley Center for Media is presenting the twenty-eighth annual PaleyFest: William S. Paley Television Festival (PaleyFest2011) from March 4 to 17, 2011 at the historic Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. PaleyFest2011 is an extraordinary interactive pop culture event, connecting fans with the casts and creators of their favorite series as well as the icons who have changed or are changing the face of media. Named for William S. Paley, founder of both the Paley Center and CBS, PaleyFest continues its twenty-eight year tradition of celebrating the collaborative creativity behind making great entertainment content-from the genesis of an idea to that vital connection with audiences the world over. During each PaleyFest evening, the audience views episodes or highlights of the featured work followed by a panel discussion with the cast and creative team and then has the opportunity to ask questions of those involved in its production.

In yet another season 10 twist from American Idol, tonight's top 13 performances were pre-taped...again. A FOX rep told People magazine, 'We have pre-taped shows at this stage of the competition before ... although it's rare.' Why the hold up, you ask? This being only the second time in Idol history that there are 13 finalists instead of 12, producers wanted to make sure all of the performance fit into the 2 hour time slot.

Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom. The show's judges travel across the country in search of the next AMERICAN IDOL. They winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week in front of a studio audience and television viewers.

This week on American Idol, the top 24 contestants sang for America's votes and were reduced to the top 13. This week on American Idol, the top 24 sang for their lives in attempt to secure a top ten spot. And in this first official results show of the season, an additional two contestants were picked from the loser bunch to round off the top 12. Ryan quickly revealed that this week's shows picked up more votes than ever this early in the American Idol process- so clearly the new online voting is working out.

After having to endure hours of exhausting, prolonged, and almost completely performance-lacking episodes last week, American Idol fans have plenty of reasons to rejoice, as the official competition kicked off tonight. Now that the best of the best have been filtered from the rest, expect episodes to include a lot less deliberating and a lot more singing!

The Top 24 semifinalists are: Males - Casey Abrams, Jovany Barreto, Jordan Dorsey, James Durbin, Clint Jun Gamboa, Tim Halperin, Stefano Langone, Brett Loewenstern, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald and Robbie Rosen; Females - Naima Adedapo, Lauren Alaina, Kendra Chantelle, Ashthon Jones, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez, Pia Toscano, Lauren Turner, Tatynisa Wilson, Julie Zorrilla and Rachel Zevita.

In a last minute switch by American Idol, Wednesday night's episode featured just one hour of Las Vegas Beatlemania instead of the scheduled two. Because of the change, Idol fans got an early taste of the ever dramatic and always bittersweet Green Mile portion of the show, when each contestant took the long and painful walk to their impending doom.

In tonight's episode of American Idol, the top 61 contestants tackled one of the vastest song catalogs in the history of music- The Beatles. And where better to tribute the Fab Four than on the set of Cirque Du Soleil's LOVE in Las Vegas.

Tonight's episode of American Idol marks a turning point in the competition, as judges Randy, JLo and Mr. Tyler made the trek to San Francisco for the final stop in their nation-wide search for America's most promising singers. That's right, starting tomorrow night, Idol will reach it's final destination, where the best auditionees from around the country will duke it out to survive the brutal first cut of the Hollywood round.
