UMS Announces 2018-19 Season

The University Musical Society (UMS), under the leadership of President Matthew VanBesien, today announces its 140th season in 2018-19 with an initial slate of 40 performances and events. One of the country's most acclaimed performing arts presenters, UMS honors its past by showcasing respected ensembles and performers with whom it has enjoyed rich relationships, and fully embraces the future as initiator, incubator, and accelerator for innovative new works and projects. This potent combination infuses the anniversary season with dynamic and diverse voices and perspectives featuring artists at the top of their game - celebrating the canon, taking risks, moving genres in new directions, disrupting stereotypes, and surprising audiences.

The Actors Fund to Honor Chita Rivera, Uma Thurman, Warren Beatty, and Kenny Leon at Annual Gala

The Actors Fund, the national human services organization for everyone in performing arts and entertainment, will hold its Annual Gala on Monday, May 14, 2018. The evening will celebrate Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty, Tony Award-winning Broadway and film director Kenny Leon, currently director of Children of a Lesser God on Broadway, two-time Tony Award-winning actress, singer and dancer Chita Rivera, and Golden Globe-winning, Academy Award and Emmy-nominated actress Uma Thurman. Mr. Beatty, Mr. Leon, Ms. Rivera and Ms. Thurman will be awarded The Actors Fund's Medal of Honor. The event begins with 6 pm cocktails followed by a 7 pm dinner and tribute at the New York Marriott Marquis. The evening will include special tribute performances by guests to be announced.

Texas Music Festival to Pack Star Power with COSMIC BEGINNINGS

The Immanuel and Helen Olshan TEXAS MUSIC FESTIVAL (TMF) will pack the star power this June, from launching its 2018 TMF Orchestra Series with "Cosmic Beginnings," a space spectacular pairing Strauss and Holst space-themed masterpieces, to presenting Maestro Hans Graf's first Houston guest conducting appearance since earning the prestigious Grammy Award in January.  The 29th Annual TMF "Cool & Classical" Orchestra Series, staged on four consecutive Saturday nights between June 5 - July 1, will showcase the talents of classical music's rising stars, whose career trajectories have led them to Houston to study and perform with world-class conductors, soloists and faculty artists at the University of Houston (UH) Moores Opera House and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.  

American Composers Orchestra Announces 2017-2018 Emerging Composers

American Composers Orchestra continues its commitment to the creation and development of new orchestral music with the announcement of sixteen emerging composers who will participate in its catalytic programs. Six emerging composers will participate in the 27th Annual Underwood New Music Readings on June 21-22, 2018 at a location to be announced. Ten emerging composers receive 2018 EarShot New Music Readings presented by Fort Wayne Philharmonic (February 7, 2018), Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (March 1, 2018), and Jacksonville Symphony (April 20, 2018). EarShot is a partnership between American Composers Orchestra, League of American Orchestras, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.

Sarah Vowell & Many More Announced At Benaroya Hall This Spring!

The Live @ Benaroya Hall stage plays host to best-selling author Sarah Vowell and Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino for a unique conversation about pop culture and history titled "The Old & the Dead." Tickets for their lecture and all the music events are on sale now, prices vary. Additional spring and summer shows for the 2018 season will be announced in the coming weeks.

New York Theatre Ballet Presents REP, In Memory Of David Vaughan, 4/27-28

New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) continues their 39th Season with REP at Florence Gould Hall, 55 E. 59th Street, NYC, on April 27 & 28, 2018 at 7:30pm. The 2018 LA Art Show returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center January 10 - 14, 2018, with the most diverse programming and exhibitors to date. Split Britches present an up-to-the minute topical interactive show which takes unexploded ordnances as a metaphor for the unexplored potential in us all - particularly elders - and tries to uncover it. Legendary performance duo Peggy Shaw and Lois Weaver evoke the Cold War paranoia of Stanley Kubrick's Dr Strangelove to seek solutions to the problems keeping us awake at night, as the audience counts down the final hour to doomsday on their phones.

The World Premiere of CASSIE Comes to Mad Cat Theatre

Mad Cat continues its 18th season with a production of a world-premiere play CASSIE by Jessica Farr. After an international space mission goes awry, a lone astronaut and a sentient computer travel on a journey through space and time, navigating through the possibility of never returning home again. Jessica Farr decided to begin writing a piece about space travel in order to imagine worlds that could be viable alternatives to living on earth.
