Broward Stage Door Theatre in association with Kevin Black Productions will bring Black's hit show, Vegas:  A Night on the Strip to Boca Raton's Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park for a limited run from February 3rd to February 12th. 

An old-fashioned, splashy musical about a working-class Londoner who discovers he's nobility and a world premiere play about the consequences of bullying received the most nominations in the musical and play categories when the nominations were announced for the 41st annual Carbonell Awards, which honors excellence in theater in South Florida.

Stage Door Theatre will follow their recent hit production of Sweet Charity with Frank Loesser's award-winning musical The Most Happy Fella.  The production will open on December 30th, and run through February 5th in the theatre's larger auditorium. 

From Soul to Swing, Kevin Black's recent productions - created exclusively for Stage Door Theatre - have had audiences on their feet and dancing.  The Soul of Motor City, his tribute to the music of Motown, which was extended several times over this past summer, and Swing! Swing! Swing! his lovingly assembled compendium of Jazz and Swing classics were both recommended for Carbonell nominations.  

Brad Zimmerman will return to South Florida this season in his highly praised autobiographical comedy, My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy.  The show will run from December 15th through January 29th at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton.

Broward Cultural Division announces a Cultural Investment Program (CIP) Grant Application Workshop, for the fiscal year 2018 funding cycle. The workshop takes place on Wednesday, November 16, 2 pm, at the Broward County Main Library, 6th Floor, Bienes Ceremonial Room. RSVP online.

'My Son the Waiter: A Jewish Tragedy' is a hilarious and inspiring story about the grit and passion required to 'make it' as an artist. Written and performed by Brad Zimmerman, the hit comedy is coming to New Brunswick's George Street Playhouse for a four-week engagement from September 8 through October 2. The show, which has captivated audiences nationwide, is part standup and part theatrical.

In 1943 Zelma Cason filed a ground-breaking lawsuit against Pulitzer Prize-winning author (The Yearling) Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.  Cason claimed Rawlings had invaded her 'right to privacy' in the author's recently published book, Cross Creek. The suit - the first of its kind ever filed in Florida -  used 'the right of privacy defense'.  At that time the state didn't even recognize the existence of that right.
