BroadwayWorld is excited to report that BBC Two has commissioned UPSTART CROW -- a six-part series about the life of William Shakespeare -- as part of the BBC Shakespeare Festival 2016, a major season celebrating the genius of Shakespeare, 400 years after his death. David Mitchell will take on the lead role.

As the perfect antidote to the season of enforced merriment, Birmingham Repertory Theatre hosts a series of cabaret nights with a difference throughout December.  With a wickedly funny line-up and for six nights only, the Dirty Grotto will titillate even the most bah-humbugs from 10 - 19 December.

Each year The MUNY makes it a point to present a full-blown musical that's aimed at the younger set. This year it's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, which was given the patented Disney treatment when adapted for the stage from their own 1991 animated film. So, it retains plenty of the elements that made the film so successful, while also featuring some additional songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, some of which were cut from the movie. There's no denying the appeal of this material, and it's a perfect way to introduce kids to the wonders of live theatre in such a lovely setting, and on such a grand scale.

It won't stop raining. Whenever I'm at Woolfe Street, we stand outside, rain or shine and talk. Before a show, on breaks, during intermission and after. We usually discuss the play in question, whether it is a performance or rehearsal. Most of us have worked together. If we haven't worked together, then we've seen each other perform. And we're all local. We're talking about more theatre. There's something ancient about it, especially when its raining. That area of downtown Charleston reminds me a lot of London- kind of industrial- with the cold and the smell of rain. Whenever I'm there (or in any theater really) I feel like I'm a part of something lasting, something bigger than myself. Sierra- the stage manager- usually calls us inside and so it goes. Anyway, its familiar. And its raining.

Mimetic Festival 2014's programme has gone live and a wealth of cutting-edge theatre and cabaret will soon be lighting up the dark tunnels of the Vaults. The festival runs today 18th - Saturday 29th November 2014.
