2011 FRIGID New York Festival Announces All Shows

FRIGID New York is a Fringe Festival located in the heart of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The selection process is part first- come, first- serve, and part lottery. FRIGID New York returns 100% of the box office revenue to the participating company. FRIGID New York offers 30 production slots no longer than 60 minutes in length: 10 shows each in The Kraine Theater, The Red Room, and UNDER St. Marks.

Goodman Theatre is proud to announce the Chicago screening of Steven Soderbergh's art house biopic, 'And Everything Is Going Fine,' about the life and work of the late celebrated monologist Spalding Gray, presented by IFC Films. This 89-minute film, declared 'a valuable coda to the storyteller's cinematic legacy' (The Hollywood Reporter), features footage from Gray's numerous stage appearances at the old Goodman Theatre between 1985 and 1999.

INTERVIEWING THE AUDIENCE - a new work by the playwright and filmmaker Zach Helm and created spontaneously each night by Mr. Helm from on stage interviews with willing members of the audience - will begin previews February 3 prior to its official opening night on February 10 as the next production in the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) season. Aurora Theatre Company announced today its plans for a workshop production of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier's Tale). Through an innovative collaboration between Artistic Director Tom Ross and former San Francisco Ballet dancer Muriel Maffre, Aurora will develop a re-imagined production of L'Histoire du Soldat, based on a new translation of the libretto and new adaptation of the score. The project will feature four musicians (piano, violin, clarinet and percussion), three actors, two dancers/puppeteers, puppets (one life-size and one small), and video elements. Maffre, who performed a concert version of the work with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in Seattle, will serve as choreographer, dancer, and co-director of the workshop. Artistic Director Tom Ross will co-direct with Maffre, and Berkeley Opera's Jonathan Khuner will serve as musical director.

Goodman Theatre announces the 12-member cast for Robert Fall's intimate new production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull (rehearsals begin August 24, tickets go on sale August 13). This 19th century masterpiece is brought to life by a company including Francis Guinan (August: Osage County; The Grapes of Wrath) in his Goodman debut as the retired judge Peter Sorin and Mary Beth Fisher (Rock 'N' Roll; The Year of Magical Thinking) as his sister, Irina Arkadina, a beautiful, selfish actress. Also joining the cast are Janet Ulrich Brooks (Polina); Rebecca Buller (Maid); Cliff Chamberlain (Boris Trigorin, Irina's young lover), Dietrich Gray (Yakov); Stephen Louis Grush (Konstantin Trepliov, Irina's twenty-five year old playwright son); Scott Jaeck (Dr. Eugene Dorn); Kelly O'Sullivan (Masha); Steve Pickering (Ilia Shamrayev, Sorin's estate manager); Demetrios Troy (Simon Medvendenko); and Heather Wood (Nina Zarietchnaya). Former 'Saturday Night Live' and Comedy Central star Colin Quinn moves his one-man show Colin Quinn Long Story Short, directed by Jerry Seinfeld, to Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre for an 11-week limited engagement. Preview performances began on Friday, October 22nd and will officially open on Tuesday, November 9th. The production will play through Saturday, January 8th.
