GTA to Stage Ancient Drama ANTIGONE, Beginning 2/13

?Continuing its 35th Anniversary season and as part of its annual February Festival of plays, the Gainesville Theatre Alliance is producing its very first Ancient Greek drama for the MainStage, Sophocles' Antigone. The original heroine's fight to preserve her family's honor opens Feb. 13th at University of North Georgia's Ed Cabell Theatre (3820 Mundy Mill Road, Oakwood).

PICT Classic Theatre to Open 2015 Season with FOR THE TREE TO DROP, 2/19-28

It's a new year, and PICT Classic Theatre opens its nineteenth season out of the gate with a world-premiere, For the Tree to Drop, written by celebrated local actress Lissa Brennan. Part of PICT's brand-new Downtown Series, it is no coincidence that this compelling piece will run February 19 - 28, during Black History Month, at the Peirce Studio inside The Trust Arts Education Center at 805 Liberty Avenue.

Cutting Ball Theater Presents New ANTIGONE Translation, 2/19-3/22

Cutting Ball Theater continues its 16th season with a new translation of ANTIGONE (February 19-March 22; press opening February 22). Exploring the struggle between the individual and the state, this elegant tragedy about tyrannical power and civil disobedience is considered to be Sophocles' masterpiece and has become synonymous with political protest.

Sean Mathias Joins Creative Team of THE EXORCIST; Play Heading for Broadway?

BroadwayWorld has just learned that a stage version of The Exorcist is currently in the works, and Tony nominee Sean Mathias is on board to direct the project. The play, adapted by John Pielmeier, enjoyed a run at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse in 2012, starring Richard Chamberlain and Brooke Shields. Production details have not yet been announced.

Schimmel Center at Pace University Presents THE NUTCRACKER Tonight

Schimmel Center at Pace University is proud to host the return engagement of Gelsey Kirkland Ballet'sproduction of the perennial holiday classic The Nutcracker. Due to the success of the production's debut last season at Schimmel Center, this year's production of The Nutcracker will be performed over the course of a special two-week engagement, running tonight, December 11-21.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre Presents A REVOLUTIONARY CHRISTMAS

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) presents the third play in its seventeenth Mainstage season, the World Premiere of 'A Revolutionary Christmas'. Written by Reiner Prochaska and directed by Suzanne Beal, the play tells the story of a family living on a German farm in Frederick during the Revolutionary War. When they end up taking an escaped Hessian soldier captive, the soldier helps them rediscover love, hope, forgiveness, and the meaning of Christmas. A show for the whole family and an excellent way to celebrate the holidays, it will run at MET this December for fourteen performances over four weeks.

The Hypocrites' H.M.S. PINAFORE, THE MIKADO and PIRATES OF PENZANCE Begin in Rep Tonight

On the heels of their critically acclaimed hit ALL OUR TRAGIC, The Hypocrites are pleased to continue their 2014-15 Season with another world premiere: a playful re-imaging of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera H.M.S. PINAFORE, adapted and directed by Founding Artistic Director Sean Graney, co-directed by Thrisa Hodits with new arrangements by Matt Kahler* and Andra Velis Simon.

This 30-member company, under the artistic direction of Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov, is comprised of nineteen dancers and eleven apprentices, and is based in Lower Manhattan.

Piliot Theatre to Bring ANTIGONE to Exeter Northcott Theatre

Following the critical success of his recent plays Kingston 14 at Theatre Royal Stratford East and Pilot Theatre's touring production of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, the acclaimed and award-winning playwright Roy Williams is once again set to join forces with York-based Pilot Theatre, this time to bring Sophocles' Antigone up to date in a bold new contemporary version of the classic Greek tragedy that will be relevant to today's audiences.
