Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes to Star in Opera Australia's THE KING AND I from April 15

Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and leading Australian theatre producer John Frost today announced the principal cast for Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic Broadway musical The King and I. Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes will co-star in the Tony Award-winning Australian production, which is being revived next year by the Gordon Frost Organisation and Opera Australia.

Hunter College Art Galleries to Host BETWEEN IMAGE AND SOUND Symposium, 10/18

In conjunction with William Anastasi: Sound Work, 1963-2013 the Hunter College Art Galleries will present an evening devoted to sound-based art. The evening's program will feature a panel discussion dedicated to an engagement with the broad theories and practice of sound based art. The panelists include curator and critic Robert Storr, Barbara London, former Associate Curator in the Department of Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art, artist Robert Barry, and artist Stephen Vitiello and will be moderated by Max Weintraub, exhibition curator and Assistant Visiting Professor at Hunter College. The evening will close with a conversation between William Anastasi and art historian Charles Stuckey.

Palo Alto Players Present GOD OF CARNAGE November 1-17, 2013

A surreal musical comedy, Rich and Famous is part vaudeville, part absurd, and an entirely funny romp through the perils of being a successful artist, by playwright John Guare, the genius who also wrote The House of Blue Leaves and Six Degrees of Separation.

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra Opens Masterworks Series, 10/26

The VSO offers a five-concert Saturday Masterworks series at the Flynn Center in Burlington, with additional select Sunday Matinee performances in Rutland (beginning at 3:00 pm). All Flynn concerts begin at 8:00 pm and are preceded at 7:00 pm by Musically Speaking, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the evening's program.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas (AAOA) will celebrate the genesis of its permanent collection with a special exhibition that opens October 8. The Nelson A. Rockefeller Vision: In Pursuit of the Best in the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas is organized to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of The Museum of Primitive Art, the direct precursor to the Metropolitan's Department of AAOA.

Paolo Bortolameolli to Lead Zephyrus Project Orchestra in RITENOW Project, 11/17

New Met Exhibition Kicks Off October 8 - The Nelson A. Rockefeller Vision: In Pursuit of the Best in the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas (AAOA) will celebrate the genesis of its permanent collection with a special exhibition that opens October 8. The Nelson A. Rockefeller Vision: In Pursuit of the Best in the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas is organized to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of The Museum of Primitive Art, the direct precursor to the Metropolitan's Department of AAOA. The Museum of Primitive Art was a pioneering cultural institution that featured Nelson Rockefeller's non-Western art collection. The announcement by Rockefeller of an agreement to transfer his collection to the Metropolitan Museum was made in 1969 and in January 1982 the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing opened to the public.

Art Institute's MAX KOZLOFF: CRITIC AND PHOTOGRAPHER Opens Tomorrow

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Max Kozloff (b. 1933) emerged as one of the leading critics and writers on modern art. By the mid-1970s he turned his attention to photography criticism and took up a camera to make his own work. Organized by the Art Institute of Chicago, Max Kozloff: Critic and Photographer, on view from October 5, 2013 through January 5, 2014 inGalleries 1-4, is a major retrospective that reveals the ways in which Kozloff's work as a writer shaped his vision behind the camera lens, and vice versa. The exhibition includes over 80 works, all drawn from the permanent collection of the Art Institute, including photographs by artists who have both inspired Kozloff's photography and served as the subjects of his writing. Accompanying the individual images are excerpts from Kozloff's critical pieces from 1976 to the present. Kozloff's own photographs are also included, while a reading room allows visitors to further study his work as a critic.
