Luis Salgado, who most recently was involved in the developmental lab for the new Gloria Estefan Musical On your Feet, has signed on as director/choreographer of the NYC World Premier of Zuccotti Park. Book and lyrics by Catherine Hurd and music composed by Vatrena King, with musical direction by Joshua Coyne. This new musical about the 'Human Side of Economics' will have 4 performances and close the 2015 Venus/Adonis Festival.

And yet, with playwright Deborah Margolin's work, IMAGINING MADOFF, we're given an opportunity to examine in detail the man who concocted this plan. It's not that you feel any empathy or understanding for his motives, but that you see him as a real person, and not just another criminal elevated by the media due to his notorious actions. It's a really engaging and thought-provoking piece of theatre that exemplifies the kind of material that the New Jewish Theatre has become so well known for, and it's one that should not be missed at all costs.

Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced today that Award-winning Canadian actress Chilina Kennedy, who made her Broadway debut as 'Mary Magdalene' in Jesus Christ Superstar, has nabbed the title role in Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, the smash hit musical about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter. Kennedy begins performances on March 7, 2015, succeeding Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller, who will play her final performance in Beautiful on March 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street).

The American Repertory Theater of WNY kicks off the second half of the 2014-15 season with the 8th annual Mardi Gras celebration with a new twist in the evening's entertainment. This celebration brings Poetry Slam with Beads that will feature regional urban poets 10k, Ben Brindise, Jimmie Byrd, Bo Brooks, Team Finks, Dana Ingerbreston, Danielle Johnson, Lazyrus, Solomon and Brandon Williamson as all bring their writing talent to an evening of gumbo, good times a rollin', beads a flyin', rice & beans and the soul-funkrock sounds of Child of Folly. And, of course, the ART/WNY Mardi Gras celebration wouldn't be complete without the traditional readings from the classic Louisiana book of folk-tales GUMBO YA YA. Festivities are at Bittner Hall, 16 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo NY, open at 7 pm with performances beginning at 8 pm. Tickets are $25 at the door but can be purchase online for $20.
