Imagined Theatre announces that The Pound: A Musical for the Dogs - a funny and heartwarming show about a collection of colorful canines and their quest to find a home - will be showcased in New York City as part of Theatre Now New York's Sound Bites 4.0 musical theatre festival: http://www.tnny.org/ - An excerpt from The Pound: A Musical for the Dogs will be presented at the Signature Theatre on 42nd Street (Irene Diamond Stage) on May 29, 2017.

Today's subject Natascia Diaz is currently living her theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre playing the whore with a heart Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Joe Calarco. The production runs through July 2nd. Previously she appeared at Signature in West Side Story, The Threepenny Opera (2015 Hayes Award nomination), and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) are thrilled to announce the winners of the 62nd Annual Obie Awards®. Jennifer Kidwell & Scott R. Sheppard's Underground Railroad Game, produced by Ars Nova, and J.T. Roger's Oslo, produced by Lincoln Center Theater, shared the Obie Awards for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $500 prize each. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel received a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Today's subject Emily Townley is currently living her theatre life over at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company where she is preparing to begin performances of Taylor Mac's play Hir. The production plays from May 22nd through June 18th.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 70th and 71st Rolling World Premieres: Br'er Cotton by Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm and Project Dawn by Karen Hartman. The two plays will receive a total of 6 NNPN RWP productions, with each play seeing at least three distinct productions in a discrete 12-month period.  

Fresh off a cross-country tour, John Strand's critically-acclaimed political drama The Originalist, based on the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, returns to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith.

Brilliantly ending their spectacular 10th season, Long Island's John W. Engeman Theatre offers a great incarnation of the iconic, game-changing musical Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!. Excellently directed by Engeman vet Igor Goldin, this production runs through June 25th at the gorgeous Northport venue. The cast is truly outstanding and the whole production is well done.

The Farm Theater will premiere Alex Raid's The Floor is Lava, directed by Jessica O'Hara Baker (Directing Fellow at The Farm Theater), at the 9th Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity.
