INDUSTRY: Theater Report- August 7th, 2017, Take a Look at the Broadway Real Estate for the Upcoming Season

Even though we are in the slow summer season for theatre news, show and casting announcements have been slowly trickling in so that the 2017-2018 Broadway season is beginning to come into sharper focus. The slate is filled with high-profile offerings like FROZEN and HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, exciting revivals including M. BUTTERFLY, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and MY FAIR LADY, intriguing new works like THE BAND'S VISIT and JUNK, and curious newcomers, i.e. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS and ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE.

Adam Langdon to Lead 'CURIOUS INCIDENT' National Tour at the Ahmanson

Casting is set for the Los Angeles engagement of the National Theatre production of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" presented at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. The Tony Award-winning new play by Simon Stephens is adapted from Mark Haddon's best-selling novel and directed by Tony winner Marianne Elliott ("War Horse"). "Curious Incident…" previews August 2, opens August 3 and continues through September 10, 2017.

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME to Arrive at the Ahmanson Next Week

Presented by Center Theatre Group, The National Theatre production of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' will begin performances at the Ahmanson Theatre on August 2 with the opening set for August 3. The Tony Award-winning new play by Simon Stephens is adapted from Mark Haddon's best-selling novel and directed by Tony winner Marianne Elliott ('War Horse'). Performances will continue through September 10, 2017.

BRIC JazzFest 2017 Announces Full Programming

BRIC is pleased to announce full programming for the 2017 BRIC JazzFest, the third annual edition of the celebrated Brooklyn jazz festival, conceived and curated by Jack Walsh, Lia Crockett and Brice Rosenbloom. As it expands even more in its third year, the Festival continues to deliver on the promise Nate Chinen suggested in The New York Times when he wrote, "Given what's still a limited infrastructure for jazz in Brooklyn, BRIC JazzFest could be an important force for good." The Festival takes place over the course of a week (October 14-21), featuring film, dance, panel discussion and student workshops, and culminates with a three-day concert marathon, with performances taking place simultaneously in the various spaces comprising BRIC House (647 Fulton Street, Brooklyn).

Strike Up the Band! BANDSTAND Celebrates 100 Performances with Free Cast Album Streaming

The Tony Award winning production of the new musical Bandstand, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton) and featuring music by Richard Oberacker and a book and lyrics by Robert Taylor and Richard Oberacker, celebrates 100 performances on Broadway at the matinee performance today, Wednesday, July 26.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN Recoups on Broadway

Producer Stacey Mindich has just announced that Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, has recouped its production costs in just 8.5 months on Broadway. Capitalized at $9.5 million, Dear Evan Hansen opened at the Music Box Theatre to rave reviews on December 4, 2016, where it's broken all box office records and been playing to standing-room-only crowds since.

The National Theatre production of THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME is the Tony Award-winning new play by Simon Stephens, adapted from Mark Haddon's best-selling novel. Directed by Tony winner Marianne Elliott (War Horse and Curious Incident), the critically acclaimed production will come to Seattle for a one-week engagement from July 25-30 as part of a North American Tour.
