Photo Coverage: York Theatre Company Celebrates Opening Night of DESPERATE MEASURES

The York Theatre Company production of Desperate Measures, the knee-slappin' new musical with a nod to Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, with book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg (Anna Karenina) and music by David Friedman (Scandalous), presented in association with Cecilia Lin and Hu Guo, is now in performance through Sunday, October 15, 2017 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Cabaret Producer Joseph Macchia Celebrates 20 Years with Benefit March 22nd

Joseph Macchia produced his first show in 1997 a show called Gwen Verdon and All Her Jazz, a show his brother Peter had written and starred in. Being bit by the producing bug, Joseph would go on to produce his brother's next show Judy and Me originally a one night solo show at the Duplex, Judy and Me would be turned into a play, and was booked for four nights at Rose's Turn. Where the show would wind up running for two years and then go and tour around the country. After Judy and Me toured the show took a break before returning to New York in an Off Off Broadway Run and then Off Broadway run. It isn't just her New Year's Eve Party that launched the start of a great new New York City Cabaret year.  Marilyn Maye is also keeping the musical festivities going at the Metropolitan Room on Jan. 6,7,11,12,13, and 14th.  It's become one of the hottest tickets in town.  Her song selection may be a little different than New Years but the excitement and excellence of her performance are the same.  The Metropolitan Room is also launching their new menu selections for 2017.

THE Q Returns Oct 8th - The Gay Variety Talk Show Discusses the Art Of Drag and More

The Q Returns to the Metropolitan Room this Fall. Joseph Macchia producer and creator is bringing back his talk show The Q Joining Joseph on the panel will be Thomas Dieter and Shawn Moninger and Special Guest Host Marcus Phillips . There has been The View, The Chew and The Talk but nothing like The Q ...and it's hosted by all gay men who vary in interests, abilities and backgrounds. There's the Long Islander with a leathery past, the free-spirited southern boy with a thing for attention, and the reverend who knows a thing or two about what's GOOD. They sing, they joke, they talk, and they're up for most anything. Special guests to include singers and musicians, comics and writers, florists and sex-toy store owners, among others. Specialty Topics and more to be discussed.

CONCERT FOR A CAUSE Set for Unity Center, 6/4

Broadway and cabaret performers come together for a good cause on Saturday, June 4 at 7 pm at Unity Center in Norwalk, Connecticut. The 'cause' for this concert will be announced as a part of the event itself, so just come enjoy a stellar show with two for one drinks after the event at BJ Ryan's BANC House (around the corner from Unity Center).

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs presents the 30th Annual MAC Awards tonight, March 29, 2016, at 7:30pm, at BB King Blues Club & Grill on 42nd Street in New York City.

BWW Review: Because He Can, Shawn Moninger Presents Cabaret Filled with Humor, Heart and Spirituality at the Metropolitan Room

It took 30 years for Shawn Moninger, a Unity minister and longtime technical director with four MAC awards, to move out of the booth and onto the stage. His show Because I Can (which has been running monthly at the Metropolitan Room since last November) is more a one-man Off-Broadway comedy show than typical cabaret. Almost without exception, the opening of a cabaret show is the weakest. Performers tend to warm up around the third or fourth number. That was not the case at the February 27 show, or as Moniger put it, 'the Senior Citizen Happy Hour.'
