The Rainbow Theatre Project's 2015/16 Generation Q Staged Reading Series closes with a presentation the award-winning Jeffrey by Paul Rudnick. The reading takes place Monday, May 16, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Source in the District.

The Independent Filmmakers Showcase, a Los Angeles-based film festival, announced this week that their 2016 lineup will include The City Shakespeare Company's adaptation of MACBETH, titled INNOCENT SLEEP. The film will be screened at The Beverly Hills Music Hall, 9036 Wilshire Blvd., 90211, on June 1 at 8:10 pm.

New York Theatre Workshop has announced the playwrights and directors selected for the 2016/17 Season 2050 Fellowship. The playwrights are Beto O'Byrne, Ming Peiffer, and Francis Weiss Rabkin and the directors are Danny Sharron, Stevie Walker-Webb, and Mo Zhou.

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the full cast and creative team of the World Premiere of THE FORGOTTEN WOMAN, A New Play by Jonathan Tolins, directed by Noah Himmelstein. The production will run May 31-June 19.

Lest you might think careers are well-planned, organized endeavors, take a lesson from director Timothy Douglas, who is gracing Washington in a return visit to Arena Stage (last season's King Hedley II was his Arena Stage debut) with his work with Ayad Akhtar's Disgraced, a play about being Muslim or, perhaps more importantly, being perceived as Muslim, in America in current times. 'I tripped into directing,' says Timothy, 'I went to LA as an actor, but found I didn't have the skin for it, so I stepped back and thought I'd be a career teacher, but through some dumb luck, I directed a show, and some people liked what they saw, and I ended up with the Center Theatre Group in LA, as a director. When I finally stopped resisting the path, it started to work.' 'It seems every good thing,' he laughingly reflects, 'has happened as I was being dragged through the back door kicking and screaming.' So, it seems, tripping doesn't always mean falling.

The Welders-Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new work-has added two members to their Board of Directors.

Artistic Director Braden Abraham today announced Seattle Repertory Theatre's 2016-2017 Season. The season is headlined by the electrifying musical Here Lies Love from David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Fatboy Slim, a new production ofthe award-winning Broadway smash King Charles III, and the timeless classic A Raisin in the Sun. Due to the Helen Hayes Awards ceremony, Shakespeare Theatre Company's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW will celebrate Opening Night and Press Night on Tuesday, May 24. Previews begin on May 17 and performances continue through June 26 at STC's Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). 

Famed British playwright/director/actor/poet, Ryan J-W Smith, 'The Bard Mark Two - genius!' (BBC) and his internationally award-winning Rogue Shakespeare theatre company return to the Hollywood Fringe this summer. Last year, Smith's multiple award-winning verse play 'Love Labours Won' garnered two Hollywood Fringe awards, including the coveted International Award. This year Rogue Shakespeare is presenting the world premiers of two new Smith verse plays at the Hollywood Fringe - 'MacDeth!' and 'Sweet Love Adieu'.

Next at Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), stage and screen actors Maulik Pancholy (Weeds, 30 Rock) and Peter Gadiot (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) will be seen playing Katherina and Petruchio respectively in Ed Sylvanus Iskandar's bold new interpretation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Iskandar, known for his striking and immersive directorial style, completes STC's 2015-2016 season with this production, playing in Sidney Harman Hall from May 17 to June 26, 2016.

As part of the kick-off event for the 2016 Kennedy Center (KC) American College Theater Festival, a special preview of the EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS will be performed and livestreamed as part of KC's Millennium Stage Series. The preview consists of an excerpt of the collection with more than 30 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, with participation by theater makers and institutions across the nation and showcases the creative outcome of a community outreach residency in Ferguson and St. Louis County, Missouri in the fall of 2015.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 150 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 48th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 12-16, 2016 in multiple locations throughout the Center. Thousands of student artists from eight regions across the country presented their work at regional festivals from January 5 through February 27, 2016 and more than 150 were selected to travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the national festival.

The workshop of award-winning composer/lyricist/playwright/performer Max Vernon's new musical THE VIEW UPSTAIRS, directed by Scott Ebersold and with choreography by Spencer Liff and music direction by Matt Aument, will hold their industry presentations this week, starting today, March 31st, and continuing tomorrow, Friday, April 1st, in New York City.
