The Old Globe's 2017 2018 Season continues with today's announcement of the complete cast and creative team of a top-notch revival of Oscar Wilde's endlessly entertaining comedy The Importance of Being Earnest. Dear Readers, it's been quite a year and, hopefully, we've come through it unscathed. God knows we've needed some shows to help us escape and others to make us think. But through it all we've had several shows that have proven to shine as some of the best of the year. Out of all the shows I was fortunate enough to see this year, I've selected a few that stood out. Here are those stand outs, a few honorable mentions and a few special mentions about which I just couldn't help myself but to mention in their own special way.
Denise La Grassa will present her 75-minute original jazz-theater performance The Blues Ain't A Color to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Day, followed by a brief community discussion about Dr. King's legacy.
Community College of Baltimore County presents Migration, an original dance production created by internationally known choreographer and CCBC alumnus Peter Pucci as part of the Baltimore Stories Performing Arts series at CCBC. The premiere of Migration will be performed on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at CCBC Essex, Wellness and Athletics Center, as Pucci returns to his Baltimore roots with a dance production exploring the interconnectedness of the human experience. The event is free, but tickets are required.
Bristol Riverside Theatre heads into the new year with Donald Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Time Stands Still January 23-February 11. Directed by Susan D. Atkinson, the ensemble cast includes Laura Giknis, Eleanor Handley, Michael Satow, and Danny Vaccaro.
