The 2019 Hollywood Music in Media Awards were held just last week at The Avalon, in Hollywood, honoring some of the industry's finest talent, including Broadway veteran and Harriet star, Cynthia Erivo.
In late 2016, Charles Bradley faced his greatest challenge in a lifetime filled with challenges. A stomach cancer diagnosis earlier that fall forced him off the road at the peak of his career. Weakened by months of chemotherapy, facing a potentially life threatening surgery and confronting his own mortality, Bradley stepped into a home recording studio in Queens, NY and spontaneously created “Lonely as You Are.”
It was announced today that the new musical Swept Away, featuring the music of The Avett Brothers, will have its world premiere at Berkeley Rep as part of their 2019-20 season, beginning performances in June 2020. Swept Away is produced by Berkeley Rep by special arrangement with Matthew Masten and Sean Hudock.
Known for their live performances that blend bluegrass roots with the fierce fire of a rock show and an emotional, near-gospel spirit, The Avett Brothers are no strangers to major venues: for past summers, they have sold out three nights at Colorado's legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater. SXSW saw a lot of opportunities for new films and documentaries to be premiered. One in particular was a documentary called MAY IT LAST: A PORTRAIT OF THE AVETT BROTHERS that explored the Avett Brothers' journey into making their latest album that was recently released called “True Sadness.” In creating this documentary, directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio wanted to share all aspects of the lives' of the Avett Brothers and their band.
