Last night, The Public Theater opened AS YOU LIKE IT, the first show of The Public's 50th Anniversary season at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park--home of free Shakespeare in the Park. Previews began June 5. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, AS YOU LIKE IT will continue for four weeks through Saturday, June 30. Celebrating 10 years, Resonance Ensemble (Eric Parness, Artistic Director; Rachel Reiner, Managing Director) will revel in classic fashion tonight, June 1, 2012 at the Judson Memorial Meeting Room (55 Washington Square South). This year's program is entitled 10 YEARS/10 DREAMS, featuring 10 ten-minute plays inspired by William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Gala will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6PM, followed by performances at 7PM. Yesterday, May 24, Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein hosted a special Birthday party on to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Little / Helen Hayes Theatre, which opened on March 12, 1912 with John Galsworthy's play The Pigeon. The cast of the reading includes Lindsay Mendez (Godspell), Hunter Ryan Herdlicka (A Little Night Music), Colin Hanlon (Rent), Sean Dugan (Next Fall), Sally Wilfert (Make Me A Song) and Michael Winther (33 Variations). The reading will be directed by Obie Award-winning director Evan Yionoulis, music directed by Paul Staroba (Lucky Guy) and stage managed by Donald Butchko.
