On February 13, New York's historic Town Hall will be the setting for an extraordinary star-studded salute to the endurance and influence of Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT), for 35 years a seminal force in the Black Arts Movement (BAM).

It's time for the fur to fly this year at the eighth annual BROADWAY BEARS auction on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill (237 W. 42nd St), in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Sure to out-do last year's collection, 40 one-of-a-kind BROADWAY BEARS - each dressed in original, handmade costumes representing some of the theater's most legendary performers and/or performances - will be put up for auction.

On February 13, New York's historic Town Hall will be the setting for an extraordinary salute to the endurance and influence of Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT), for 35 years a seminal force in the Black Arts Movement (BAM) co-hosted by Ossie Davis and Lynn Whitfield. In addition to celebrating the NFT's vital contribution to the arts internationally, the gala will feature a special 'roast and toast' to Negro Ensemble Company co-founder award winning actor/director/writer, Douglas Turner Ward and an awards presentation honoring significant contributors to the development of the theatre.

The 49th Annual Drama Desk Awards took place on May 16th at Lincoln Center's LaGuardia Concert Hall. Nominees and Broadway stars alike came out in full force and BroadwayWorld was there to capture it all.
