Buck Creek Players Stages CITY OF ANGELS, Now thru 6/23

The Buck Creek Players will continue their 2012-2013 season 'In the Spotlight' with the Tony Award winning musical, City of Angels, a deliciously funny spoof of 1940's film noir and hard-boiled detective fiction. The wickedly witty musical -- written by Larry Gelbart, creator of TV's M*A*S*H -- opened on Broadway in 1989. With four-part harmonies by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, Barnum, The Will Rogers Follies) and lyrics by David Zippel (The Goodbye GIrl, Disney's Hercules, Disney's Mulan), City of Angels went on to win numerous honors in 1990, including the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and The New York Drama Critics Circle awards for best musical. Opening tonight, June 7th, and running for three weekends through Sunday, June 23rd, curtain times will be at 8:00 p.m. todays and Saturdays, with 2:30 p.m. matinees offered on Sundays. All performances will be held at the Buck Creek Playhouse on the southeast-side of Indianapolis at 11150 Southeastern Avenue. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for students (through college), and senior citizens (ages 62 and older). Reservations are recommended and may be reserved online atwww.buckcreekplayers.com, or by calling (317) 862-2270. Group discounts are also available for parties of ten or more when purchased online.

Encore Association Fundraiser Awards Ceremony Set for Tonight, 10/29

The Encore Association has announced the nominees for Plays and Musicals for the 2011- 2012 Season of Encore. The winners will be announced at the 43rd Annual Encore Awards Fundraiser which will be held tonight, October 29, 2012 at the Madame Walker Theatre Center, 617 Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis. The evening will begin with a social hour from 6 to 7 pm; with the fundraiser starting at 7 pm.

Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles (Jim Hodgson, Director of DSALA) announced that Lucha VaVOOM, Lynda Kay, The Watson Twins, The Section Quartet and Arthur Benjamin - Mathemagician join the lineup for the 3rd annual fundraising event TWENTYWONDER, A Carnival of the Mind at the Doll Factory (1910 West Temple Street) tonight, July 7. Presented by DSALA and hosted again by the famed L.A. Derby Dolls, the evening will be a bursting expo of art, science, music and comedy, plus an all-star roller derby bout featuring the L.A. Derby Dolls vs. the San Diego Derby Dolls. Proceeds will benefit DSALA's efforts to support those born with Trisomy 21/Down syndrome living in greater Los Angeles.

BWW Reviews: Catherine Russell Mesmerizes Lincoln Center's Allen Room With Swinging Tribute to Her Dad and Satchmo

Supported by a superb 10-piece orchestra (including six horn players), Catherine Russell's set at the Allen Room for Jazz at Lincoln Center was a tribute to songs her dad Luis recorded or performed with the great Louis Armstrong from the late 1920s through the 1930s. By the end of her show, Russell had clearly proven that she has become one of the finest interpreters of jazz and blues on the contemporary music scene.
