Award-winning trumpeter/vocalist/composer and 'one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation (Wall Street Journal),' Bria Skonberg brings her infectious and vibrant jazz and blues-infused style to Pepperdine University's Smothers Theatre in Malibu on Saturday, September 17 at 8 p.m., officially opening the 2016-2017 season at the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts.
'Take a Shot' with Buck Creek Players as we wrap up our 42nd season of quality theater with The Playhouse Players Youth Production of BUGSY MALONE JR. Opening on Friday, July 29th, and continuing for two weekends through August 7th, curtain times are at 8PM on Friday and Saturday, with 2:30PM matinees on Sunday. All performances will be held at the Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Avenue. A biennial fundraiser for The Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship Fund, admission is $18 for everyone, with $3 from every ticket automatically donated to the scholarship fund. The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present jazz singer Gabrielle Stravelli in "On The Road Again" on Monday, April 11. With a band that included Art Hirahara on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass, Eric Halvorson on drums and Scott Robinson on sax, 'On the Road Again' featured songs Stravelli has collected and composed in travels as varied as a US State Department-sponsored international tour, headlining the Eleuthera Jazz Festival in the Bahamas and a nine-month European tour of Hair. The show showcased Stravelli's signature mix of eclectic influences including international folk songs, jazz standards, fresh arrangements of pop and musical theater, original compositions from her forthcoming CD release and a preview of her new Willie Nelson tribute 'City Girl, Country Boy'.
