(UMC) continues its 2014 developmental reading series at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center with a special presentation of I Had a Ball, the 1964 Coney Island musical comedy with a book by Tony Award winner Jerome Chodorov (Wonderful Town) and a score by Stan Freeman & Jack Lawrence. The reading, directed by Ben West (Unsung Carolyn Leigh, The Fig Leaves Are Falling, Make Mine Manhattan), was held earlier this week in the Bruno Walter Auditorium. This CD marks Forbidden Broadway's 12th cast recording with DRG Records. One of my favorite memories from my last visit to New York City was seeing FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE AND KICKING during previews at the 47th Street Theatre. As a fan of theatre and everything Broadway for a majority of my life, I relished the opportunity to be in attendance for a performance of the cherished Off-Broadway revue that equally skewers everyone and everything on Broadway. Fresh from its first ever engagement in Houston, I'm happy to report that FORBIDDEN BROADWAY is still alive, well, and kicking with everything it has got.
The Majestic Theatre's production of the FORBIDDEN BROADWAY revue brought warm approval on a cold, wet night from an audience happy to pole fun at Disney, Mackintosh, and Mormons
Casting is now complete for The Chocolate Show!, the world's tastiest new musical having its world premiere this winter in NYC. Arriving just in time for Valentine's Day, The Chocolate Show! will feature Emily McNamara, Laura D'Andre, Scott Richard Foster, Talene Monahon and Andrew Pandaleon. Performances begin on Saturday, February 1 with an official opening night set for Friday, February 14 at the 47th Street Theatre, 304 West 47th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. Featuring book and music by Alan Golub & Laura Goldfader, lyrics by Mr. Golub, The Chocolate Show! is directed by Dan Foster, choreographed by Grady McLeod Bowman and under the music direction of Jeffrey Klitz, who also provided the arrangements and orchestrations. Tickets for The Chocolate Show! are $39.50 - $59.50 and can be arranged online at www.ticketcentral.com or by calling 212.279.4200 or at the TicketCentral Box Office located at 416 West 42nd Street. Flat Rock Playhouse will soon present LES MISERABLES, featuring Broadway veteran Rob Evan as Valjean. The production, which runs July 10 through August 18, will feature direction by Vincent Marini.
