Artist Joan Giordano Features Wax in Mixed Media Exhibition, 9/8

If you thought wax was only used to create crafty candles, you're wrong. Modern encaustic artist Joan Giordano is proving this ancient waxed-based painting technique is alive and well and enjoying a revival. Giordano is highlighted in Schiffer Publication's recently released Encaustic Art in the Twenty-First Century and will be enjoying a solo exhibition at June Kelly Gallery, 166 Mercer St., NYC which opens on September 8, 2016 and will remain on view until October 8, 2016.

Latino Theater Company to Stage 'Mexican Trilogy' as One, Epic Event

An epic, theatrical event! For the first time, Evelina Fernandez's award-winning trilogy, 'Faith,' 'Hope' and 'Charity,' will be presented in its entirety as one unforgettable tour de force. The first production in the Latino Theater Company's fall programming celebrating the company's 30th anniversary and its 10th year operating the Los Angeles Theatre Center, audiences can choose to enjoy this adventure over the course of two evenings - or as one thrilling, all-day immersive experience (box dinners available for purchase).

The Franklin Stage Company Announces Surprise Addition to 20th Season

The Franklin Stage Company announces a surprise addition to its 20th season programming. On Friday August 19th at 8pm and Saturday August 20th at 2pm, FSC hosts the NYC-based theatre company Loop Troupe with a rehearsed reading of their new play Wisenheimer's Master Plan, an original comedy that is deeply inspired by three classics, Moliere's School for Wives and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest. Loop Troupe's mission is to bring the public entertaining, thought-provoking and critical work that examines our modern life, and the company shares FSC's interest in classic and classically-inspired texts. In their plays, Loop Troupe sets classical themes, structures, and character archetypes within a modern context.

Vancouver International Flamenco Festival Premieres TEMPLANZA, 9/16

Vancouver International Flamenco Festival proudly presents the local debut of Mercedes Amaya Company,September 16 & 17, 2016, 8pm at the Vancouver Playhouse. Helmed by the niece of legendary Gypsy flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, this ensemble of artists from Mexico and Spain will dazzle in Templanza, a sensuous journey through the history of flamenco and its Gitano origins. Each evening will also feature a special opening performance: On September 16, Saskatoon's celebrated ¡ARTE! Flamenco will share the evocative De Cal, Canto y Arena; On September 17, Vancouver's own Flamenco Rosario will start the night with their playful Flamenqueando. Tickets will go on sale August 13.

Franklin Stage Company Presents Rehearsed Reading of KING LEAR

The Franklin Stage Company continues its 20th season on August 12-14 with a rehearsed reading of William Shakespeare's towering tragedy, King Lear. Performances are Friday August 12th, Saturday August 13th at 8pm, and Sunday August 14th at 5pm. Director Josh Santiago brings to life this relevant and epic tale of power, politics, and family with a cast of both experienced FSC veterans and fledgling professional actors alongside teenaged performers who will rehearse together for a week before the weekend's performances.

SOPAC's Herb & Milly Iris Gallery Unveils a New Art Exhibition Starting September 8th

The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) unveils the latest in its rotating series of visual art exhibitions in the Herb & Milly Iris Gallery at SOPAC. On view from September 8 - December 8, 2016, is POLITICO: ART & THE HUMANITIES, an exhibit that explores the cultural influence of politics and the humanities through the uses of various mediums of visual art. The intersection of art and politics provides an opportunity for exploration of the ideals of truth and transparency vs. censorship and political correctness as the tug-of-war between these ideological pursuits rages on.
