The Marriott Theatre in far north suburban Lincolnshire has long been a testing ground-- for newly-written musicals, or for musicals never before produced in the round. Now, through August 14, 2011, the theatre is trying to breathe new life into the 2006 off-Broadway musical "Shout!," which you may remember didn't fare so well in a commercial run at the Drury Lane Theatre, Water Tower Place, in the summer of 2008. Award-winning director-choreographer Rachel Rockwell and music director and Northwestern University staff member Ryan T. Nelson have grappled with the jukebox songs originally assembled by others, and they use the Marriott's top-notch team of singers, dancers, arrangers and designers to very nearly come up with a winning 90-minute, intermissionless theatrical diversion. The producers of the revival of WEST SIDE STORY announced today that Broadway newcomer Sarah Amengual will be Broadway's 'Maria' beginning Tuesday, September 21, 2010. 2009 Tony Award nominee Josefina Scaglione will play her final performance as 'Maria' on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Ms. Amengual follows in this production's tradition of brining fresh new talent to the role of 'Maria.'

The new Broadway cast album of 'West Side Story' has picked up the 2010 Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. The announcement was made during the Grammy Awards' pre-telecast ceremony held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday, January 31. The creative team behind the 'West Side Story' new Broadway cast album is Leonard Bernstein, composer; Stephen Sondheim, lyricist. David Caddick & David Lai produced the album which was released by Masterworks Broadway.
