WSU's Bonstelle Theatre Presents GUYS AND DOLLS, Now thru 4/19

Tonight, April 11, Theatre and Dance at Wayne rolls back the clock to the era when the Bonstelle Theatre became a part of Wayne State University, with the production of the 1950 classic, Guys & Dolls. Based on Damon Runyon's story and characters, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy features one of the greatest musical scores in the history of American theatre, and is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy.

Four-time Tony® Award winning playwright Terrence McNally just celebrated two milestones on The Great White Way-his 20th Broadway production and the 50th Anniversary of his Broadway debut-with the opening night of his newest play, Mothers and Sons, at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) last night, March 24, 2014. Over the course of five decades, Mr. McNally has chronicled the human experience with a wide range of works including Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, The Full Monty, Ragtime, Master Class, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Kiss of the Spider Woman,The Rink, The Ritz, and Bad Habits. All the Way, the new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan, starring BREAKING BAD's Bryan Cranston, opened on March 6, 2014, on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre. The play is directed by Bill Rauch, Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where All the Way began its theatrical life. LATE BUS TO MECCA & EVERY GOODBYE AIN'T GONE to Play Studio Theatre, 3/28-4/6

Two classic African American plays - Late Bus To Mecca and Every Goodbye Ain't Gone are returning to the stage in a new and unique off-Broadway production at The Studio Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) in New York's Theatre District. With a limited run from Friday, March 28 through Sunday, April 6 2014, Late Bus To Mecca and Every Goodbye Ain't Gone are being produced by Lauren M. Smith and Michael Sonnenberg, and directed by Marishka S. Phillips.

Danny Glover & Debbi Morgan to Host NFT 44th Anniversary Gala, 3/16

Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre's 44th anniversary will culminate with a special Gala at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (199 Chambers Street) on Sunday evening March 16th. This special event saluting NFT, for over 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, will be hosted by Danny Glover and Debbi Morgan. Honorary Chairmen are Harry Belafonte and Hon. Mayor David N. Dinkins. The celebration will kick off at 4pm, and feature performances from Daniel Beaty, Impact Repertory Theater (Academy Award Nominee, 'Raise It Up' from the film August Rush), Chuck Jackson, and Valerie Simpson.

Lifetime, cable's number one destination for original movies across all key demographics, including Total Viewers, continued its impressive run of movie premieres with Saturday's launch of The Gabby Douglas Story (#GoGoldOrGoHome), scoring 3.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen Research. Immediately following the movie at 10:00 pm, the hour-long documentary Beyond the Headlines: The Gabby Douglas Story averaged 3.0 million Total Viewers. The Gabby Douglas Story was the most-tweeted program of the night across all of television (excluding sports), according to Nielsen SocialGuide.
