2007-8 Outer Critics Circle Award Winners Announced

Celebrating its 58th season of bestowing awards of excellence in the field of theater, the Outer Critics Circle, is an association with members affiliated with more than ninety newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, and theatre publications in America and abroad. The annual awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 22nd (4PM) at the legendary Sardi's Restaurant.

Outer Critics Circle Nominees Announced!

On Monday, April 21st the Outer Critics Circle Nominees were announced at the Algonguin Hotel in Manhattan. The Outer Circle Awards are chosen by a group a theater critics and writers covering Broadway for publications outside of the New York City area.

Patrick Stewart received the Evening Standard Award for Best Actor and the Critics Circle Theatre Award for Best Shakespearean Performance for this production. Rupert Goold received both the Evening Standard and Critics Circle Theatre awards for Best Director. The production also received the What's On Stage Award for Best Shakespearean Production. Macbeth has also been nominated for five Olivier Awards: Best Actor for Patrick Stewart, Best Director for Rupert Goold, Best Revival, Best Lighting Design for Howard Harrison, and Best Set Design for Anthony Ward and Lorna Heavey. The cast features Michael Feast as Macduff, Kate Fleetwood as Lady Macbeth, and Martin Turner as Banquo, as well as Oliver Birch, Ben Carpenter, Polly Frame, Scott Handy, Sophie Hunter, Hywel John, Christopher Knott, Niamh McGrady, Bill Nash, Christopher Patrick Nolan, Mark Rawlings, and Tim Treloar. Rowan Atkinson To Play 'Fagin' in Oliver At Drury Lane

Cameron Mackintosh will present Rowan Atkinson as 'Fagin' in Lionel Bart's musical masterpiece 'OLIVER!' at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, with performances commencing from 12 December 2008 and a press night on 14 January 2009.

Gawn Grainger, Douglas Henshall, Susan Lynch and Joseph Mawle will be joined by LAByrinth Theatre Company member Ron Cephas Jones in the European premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot directed by Rupert Goold. The Almeida Theatre and Headlong co-production opens on March 28, 2008 with press night on April 3, and is running until May 10.

Cast Announced for Almeida's 'Chain Play II'

Directed by Indhu Rubasingham and performed by Holly Aird, Cavan Clerkin, Brendan Coyle, Amanda Drew, John Marquez and Javone Prince, Chain Play II will be performed for one night only on 29 February 2008 at 7.30pm.

Critics' Circle Award-Winners include 'Hairspray' & Patrick Stewart

The Critics' Circle Theatre Awards 2007 were hosted today by its Chairman Charles Spencer, theatre critic of The Daily Telegraph, at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London. Top winners included the new production of 'Hairspray,' Patrick Stewart and Rupert Goold of 'Macbeth,' plus new play 'A Disappearing Number,' and actors Charles Dance, Anne-Marie Duff, Chiwetel Ejiofor.
