Open World Dance Foundation Welcomes New Instructors

Open World Dance Foundation has a passion for creating hallmark events and training programs to preserve and promote the traditions and philosophy of classical ballet training. In the summer of 2015, they will bring an illustrious group of instructors to New York unmatched by any other program and unlikely to be repeated. Instructors who have committed to be part of this summer's programs include the world's top pedagogues.
Ballet West and Lyon Opera Ballet to Receive Joyce Theater's Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance

The Joyce Theater Foundation announces the selection of Ballet West and Lyon Opera Ballet as recipients of The Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance, a $25,000 award established to support the commissioning of new works for large ballet companies, many of whom rarely perform in New York. The prize allows companies accustomed to performing large scale work to create new pieces for a smaller venue. In turn, the award provides audiences with the opportunity to experience these companies in The Joyce Theater's intimate setting. Previous recipients are Houston Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Moscow Ballet award-winning principal dancers, hailing from the world's best ballet colleges, premiere in North America on the 2014 World Peace tour. Ekaterina Bortiakova returns after garnering rave reviews in 2013, “Effortless dancing, a treat to watch, full of joyful energy,” Little Rock Democrat Gazette, Jennifer Godwin and “Epitome of a classical ballerina...to say that I was impressed would be an extreme understatement. THE RING CYCLE Begins Tonight at Birmingham Hippodrome

During the first week of November, the Mariinsky Theatre returns to the UK for an operatic showcase of Wagner's Ring in Birmingham at the historic Hippodrome and three operas originally written for the Mariinsky including the most recent Levsha (The Left-hander) by Rodion Shchedrin. With a 300-strong troop of musicians, soloists and chorus starting the tour in Cardiff with Prokofiev's Betrothal in a Monastery, Valery Gergiev proceeds to London to present Russia's national epic Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov followed by the UK premiere of The Lefthander, both in concert versions at the Barbican.
