The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) have announced the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street).

Photo Flash: Dominique Morisseau's SKELETON CREW Opens Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company

Atlantic Theater Company's critically acclaimed, world premiere production of Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, that sold out at Stage 2 earlier this season, transfered Off Broadway to Atlantic's main stage Linda Gross Theater earlier this month. The production celebrated its opening night yesterday, May 19, and will play a strictly limited engagement through Sunday, June 19. Go inside the after party at Smithfield Hall in Chelsea below!

August Wilson's JITNEY and COST OF LIVING Added to MTC's 2016-17 Season

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have just announced two additional productions as part of Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming 2016-2017 season: The Broadway premiere of August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson and the New York Premiere of Cost of Living, written by Martyna Majok and directed by Jo Bonney, in association with Williamstown Theatre Festival, Mandy Greenfield Artistic Director. Cost of Living will have its World Premiere at Williamstown Theatre Festival on the Nikos Stage from June 29 to July 10, 2016.

Signature Theatre presents the world premiere of DAPHNE'S DIVE, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (Water by the Spoonful, In the Heights) and directed by Thomas Kail (Hamilton, Fox's 'Grease: Live'). The production just opened in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Annual 'Playwrights for a Cause', Benefitting New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, to Be Held in July

The annual Playwrights for a Cause benefit will be Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at the Atlantic Theatre (Linda Gross Theater), 336 West 20th Street, NYC 10011. The special performance will include six original plays. This year the playwrights for the benefit will include: Israel Horovitz, Dominique Morisseau, Antoinette Nwandu, John Patrick Shanley, Regina Taylor as well as an award-winning writer from the Planet Connections community that will be announced later.

Blair Underwood, Ruben Santiago-Hudson & More Set for THE DETROIT PROJECT Events

Native Detroiter and Internationally Awarded Playwright, Actress and Television Writer Dominique Morisseau is returning home with Blair Underwood, Andre Holland and Ruben Santiago-Hudson for a public of event around her cycle of Detroit plays, entitled 'The Detroit Project'. The first acclaimed play in the cycle, DETROIT '67, about the 1967 uprising, is premiering in Detroit May 13-June 5th with the Detroit Public Theatre at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.
