THE SAPPHIRES from Wayne Blair is among the nominees for the 2012 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards. The film picked up nominations in the categories of best picture, director, actor and actress.

Although Ann Hampton Callaway has been performing as a nightclub nightingale for around 30 years, I feel like I've caught her act in the absolute prime of her career. Because while 54 Below may have opened it's glorious nightclub in June with Broadway musical legend Patti Lapone, and subsequently booked an All-Star team of women musical theater standouts such as Marin Mazzie, Rebecca Luker, Faith Prince, Sheri Rene Scott, Leslie Uggams, and even Ann's sister Liz Callaway, it's only fitting that a charismatic cabaret chanteuse and down-to-earth diva like Ann Hampton Callaway has become the quintessential Queen of 54 Below.
Joining Helen Mirren as The Queen in the world premiere of Peter Morgan's The Audience are Michael Elwyn as Anthony Eden, Nathaniel Parker as Gordon Brown and Rufus Wright as David Cameron, alongside the previously announced Haydn Gwynne as Margaret Thatcher, Robert Hardy as Winston Churchill and Paul Ritter as John Major. Roundabout Theatre Company will present of Picnic, starring Reed Birney as "Howard Bevans", Maggie Grace as "Madge Owens", Elizabeth Marvel as "Rosemary Sydney", Sebastian Stan as "Hal Carter", Mare Winningham as "Flo Owens" and Ellen Burstyn as "Helen Potts". This production will be directed by Sam Gold. The cast will also feature Madeleine Martin (Millie Owens), Ben Rappaport (Alan Seymour), Cassie Beck (Christine Schoenwalde), Maddie Corman (Irma Kronkite), Chris Perfetti (Bomber). Picnic will begin previews on December 14, 2012 and open officially on January 13, 2013 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42 nd Street). This will be a limited engagement through February 24, 2013.

In celebration of actor Danny Kaye's centennial, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen the holiday classic 'White Christmas' (1954) at Oscars Outdoors in Hollywood on Thursday, December 6, and Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m. Special guests include Dena Kaye, Mary Crosby and Monsita Ferrer Botwick, the daughters of Kaye, Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, respectively. Hollywood special effects wizards are predicting a 100 percent chance of snow at the open-air theater on the Academy Hollywood campus, bringing the evening to a dramatic conclusion. The hilarious holiday musical sequel to the record-breaking FOREVER PLAID, PLAID TIDINGS, entertains Theatre at the Center audiences November 15 through December 23 at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. The press performance will be November 18 at 7 p.m. Stuffed with such "Plaid-erized" Christmas standards as "Mr. Santa," "Let It Snow" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," PLAID TIDINGS is one holiday treat that is truly heaven-sent. Theatre at the Center Artistic Director William Pullinsi will direct the production starring Rod Thomas as "Francis", Scott Stratton as "Smudge", Frank J. Paul as "Jinx" and Jonathan Wagner as "Sparky". CBS Chicago's own Bill Kurtis also lends his celebrity voice for a special part in the production.
