The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra Presents THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH Featuring the Premiere of Jonathan Russell, 3/21-22

Los Altos, CA, December 18, 2013 – The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Mitchell Sardou Klein, will continue its 65th anniversary season with a pair of concerts entitled “Fountain of Youth” featuring the world premiere of a new Double Concerto for Cello, Clarinet and Orchestra by young composer and clarinetist Jonathan Russell with the composer and award-winning young cellist Nathan Chan as soloistsMarch 21 and 22 in San Mateo and Cupertino. The concerts will also include Grieg's In Autumn, the Intermezzo, Nocturne and Wedding March from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream; Lalo's Cello Concerto with Nathan Chan and Debussy's Premiere Rapsodie for Clarinet and Orchestra with Jonathan Russell.The concerts will be given Friday, March 21, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, March 22, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College. The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Three Eras of Jazz and Symphonic Synergy with Concerts, 1/17-1/18

Los Altos, CA, November 22, 2013 – With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances January 17 and 18. The program includes the world premieres of new works by Bay Area native and internationally recognized jazz artist Taylor Eigsti along with Eigsti performing Gershwin's game-changing Rhapsody in Blue and a special tribute to late Bay Area composer/pianist and jazz innovator Dave Brubeck in works to be announced featuring Eigsti and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Rounding out the evening will be Gershwin's overtures to Girl Crazy and Strike Up the Band. The concert will be given Friday, Janaury 17, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, January 18, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College. SWEET CHARITY to Play Hayes Theatre Co, Feb 7-March 9

The first show at the Hayes Theatre Co is an up-close and personal production of the classic musical Sweet Charity, produced by Luckiest Productions and Neil Gooding Productions. Sweet Charity will play at the Hayes Theatre Co from 7 February - 9 March 2014.

Peninsula Symphony Orchestra Opens 65th Season Featuring Soloist John O'Conor Tonight

The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Mitchell Sardou Klein will open the venerated and innovative ensemble's 65th season with a pair of concerts in San Bruno and Cupertino featuring the return of popular soloist John O'Conor (performing both the Grieg Piano Concerto and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy), the Masterworks Chorale and music by Brahms, Handel, and Walton. The program will be given tonight, October 25, at 8 pm at the beautiful new Capuchino High School Auditorium in San Bruno.

Emergent Arts and The Mix Studio Theatre will host Horn Rim Productions' Peter Knox in Thom Pain (Based On Nothing) by Will Eno, directed by Ron Miller, October 17th, 18th and 19th at 8:00 pm. at The Mix Studio Theatre 8 North Washington St.,Ypsilanti, MI. He's just like you, except worse. He is trying to save his life, to save your life-in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row.

The 13th Annual Helpmann Awards were presented tonight live in Sydney at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House and broadcast on Foxtel's Arena. Co-hosts Eddie Perfect and Christie Whelan Browne kicked off the night's proceedings with an incredibly entertaining opening number written specifically for the occasion by the multi-talented Mr Perfect himself.

Tim Minchin fresh from his role in Jesus Christ Superstar and his huge success with Matilda on Broadway will be making a very special appearance on the night.

On June 2, the best and brightest from area high schools gathered together at the 2013 Triangle Rising Star Awards, honoring the best in high school musical theater. Each of the 20 finalists were nominated based on performances in their schools' productions, and represented a diverse array of shows including The King and I, Godspell, and Grease, among others.

SANDY HACKETT'S RAT PACK SHOW Comes to Bristol Riverside Theatre, Now thru 5/5

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop were the fab four of The Rat Pack. They were style with substance, swing with swagger and a non-stop party that everyone wanted access to. Soho Rep's A PUBLIC READING OF AN UNPRODUCED SCREENPLAY ABOUT THE DEATH OF WALT DISNEY Will Feature Larry Pine, Amanda Quaid and More

Soho Rep has announced casting and an official opening date for the world premiere of Lucas Hnath's play A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney. Soho Rep Artistic Director Sarah Benson will direct an ensemble including Larry Pine (The Royal Family, The Seagull, Wes Anderson's films and "House of Cards") as Walt Disney, Amanda Quaid (C-ck, Luck of the Irish) as Daughter, Brian Sgambati (Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino, The Coasts of Utopia) as Ron Miller, and Frank Wood (Clybourne Park, Angels in America) as Roy Disney. Produced in association with John Adrian Selzer, the production, which concludes Soho Rep's highly successful 2012-13 season, will run April 30 - May 26 at Soho Rep (46 Walker Street). Critics are welcome as of Tuesday, May 7 for an opening on Thursday, May 9.

Mouseketeer Annette Funicello Dies at Age 70

Actress Annette Funicello, long-time Disney and Beach Party star, passed away on Monday April 8 at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, CA, at the age of 70.
