Kennedy Center Announces $5 Million Gift from Adrienne Arsht

Michael M. Kaiser, President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, today announced a major gift of $5 million from Adrienne Arsht in support of musical theater programming at the Kennedy Center. Over the next ten years, The Adrienne Arsht Musical Theater Fund will provide support to produce and present a wide variety of musical theater productions at the Kennedy Center.

Obie Award Winner Adam Rapp To Release Graphic Novel 'Ball Peen Hammer' 10/1

Adam Rapp is best known as a prolific Obie Award-winning-playwright, respected novelist, filmmaker, and director. He has written more than ten plays, including 'American Sligo' and 'Red Light Winter'(nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2006); directed his first feature film, 'Winter Passing' in 2005; published several young adult novels and an adult novel, The Year of Endless Sorrows (2007); and received two Drama Desk nominations as a director for his production of 'Blackbird'. Now, in his first graphic novel, BALL PEEN HAMMER (First Second Books / October 1st, 2009 / $17.99 paperback original), Rapp explores civilization at its darkest hour in this new visual format.

California Shakespeare Theater Announces its 2010 Season

California Shakespeare Theater Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone today announced his plans for his 10th anniversary season, which includes the company's first world premiere in more than 25 years, a return to the provocative comedy of George Bernard Shaw, and brand-new productions featuring two of Shakespeare's most intriguing couples.

Icicle Creek Theatre Festival Re-Mounts Two New Works For Seattle Audiences 8/17, 8/18

The Third Annual Icicle Creek Theatre Festival (ICTF), based in Leavenworth, will re-mount two new works exclusively for Seattle audiences. The Central Heating Lab at ACT is thrilled to host staged readings of HIM by Daisy Foote on August 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. and The Jewel in the Manuscript by Rosemary Zibart on August 18, 2009 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 and available through ACT.

KCACTF Hosts 4th MFA Playwrights' Workshop 7/25-8/2, 8 Playwrights Invited

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), in association with the National New Play Network and the National Center for New Plays at Stanford University, will host the fourth annual MFA Playwrights' Workshop, July 25 to August 2, 2009. Eight playwrights have been invited, selected from 57 Master of Fine Art graduate students nominated by the heads of playwriting programs across the nation.
