SoCal's Laguna Playhouse Welcomes RITA RUDNER: ACT 3, 8/24-26

The Laguna Playhouse welcomes back Rita Rudner, one of the country's top comediennes, for an exclusive three-day stand-up engagement, aptly titled Rita Rudner: Act 3, Friday, August 24 - Sunday, August 26, 2012. Performance times are 7 p.m. each evening.

ELEPHANT ROOM, THE ROYALE, et al. Set for CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre in 2012-13

Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Michael Ritchie has set the 2012-2013 season at the CTG/Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. In a season of contrasts - of surprising comedy and startling drama, the 2012-2013 season at the Kirk Douglas Theatre will include the magical and mystical hi-jinks of the CTG-commissioned "Elephant Room" by Trey Lyford, Geoff Sobelle and Steve Cuiffo; the acclaimed Gate Theatre Dublin production of the Beckett classic "Krapp's Last Tape" with one of Britain's greatest actors, John Hurt; the comic genius of The Second City with their unique, satirical twist on a Dickens's favorite - "A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!" written by Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort; the world premiere of the otherworldly drama "The Nether" by the 2012 Susan Blackburn Smith prize-winning playwright Jennifer Haley; and the world premiere of the powerful boxing drama "The Royale" by Los Angeles playwright Marco Ramirez.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE MUSICAL Plays Dickson's Renaissance Center for 12/2-18 run

Featuring a cast of actors from throughout Middle Tennessee, The Renaissance Players will present the musicalized version of a holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, The Musical, December 2- 18 in the Anne Deason Performance Hall at The Renaissance Center in Dickson. The Charles Dickens classic gets the full Broadway treatment with music by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid) and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical).

The Laguna Playhouse recently welcomed three new members to its board of trustee's leadership team with the addition of Mr. Tim Carlyle and Mr. Glenn Gray of Laguna Beach and Mr. Justin Myers of Newport Beach.

A Tribute to Jill Haworth, The Original 'Sally Bowles'

On January 3, 2011, Cabaret's original Sally Bowles, Jill Haworth passed away at age 65 of what was reported to be natural causes. In celebration of her life, Michael Gregg Michaud composed the following tribute to the late star. Michaud was a good friend of the actress and author of the biography of Sal Mineo, who was Haworth's lover for many years.

Laguna Playhouse's Barnicle Resigns

Henry Mayhew, Chairman of the Board of The Laguna Playhouse, today announced that he has accepted the resignation of long-time Artistic Director Andrew Barnicle, who is leaving The Playhouse to pursue outside directing and other creative opportunities.

The Laguna Playhouse launches its 2010-2011 season beginning July 6 with the award-winning hit musical LIFE COULD BE A DREAM.
