Manchester International Festival Launches Today

Manchester International Festival today launches the full programme for the 2011 Festival, with an event at Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry. From Thursday 30 June to Sunday 17 July, MIF will present more than 20 commissions, premieres and special events created by leading artists from around the world, some of which have been three years or more in the making. Museum of the City of New York Features JOEL GREY/A NEW YORK LIFE, 4/11

The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) (1220 Fifth Avenue), in its forthcoming exhibition Joel Grey / A New York Life, examines the enduring impact that legendary actor Joel Grey and his adopted city have made on each other. Through rare artifacts from his stage and screen career, objects from his personal collection, and his own photography, MCNY offers a unique look at New York through Grey's eyes as well as a visual retrospective of his career. The exhibition's opening night reception will take place on the evening of Monday, April 11, which is also Grey's 79th birthday. It will open to the public the following day, and remain on display through Monday, August 8.

On the last precipice of Civilization, the myth of Medea meets Thelma and Louise, Cavalli and Rebecca West in a multimedia mashup featuring soundscape by Kristin Worrall. medea and medea/for medea uses a variety of ancient and contemporary materials to establish new boundaries for storytelling and mythmaking in a world dominated by mediated images and information. It attempts to break down cultural and dramatic expectations and create space for audiences to experience moments and episodes of connection and recognition with unusual juxtapositions, beauty, and dissonance.

Guggenheim's WORKS & PROCRESS Announces 2011 Season

Works & Process at the Guggenheim is pleased to announce its 2011 spring season. Since 1984, in over 300 programs, New Yorkers have been able to see, hear, and meet the most acclaimed artists in the world, in an intimate setting unlike any other. Each 80-minute program informs artistic creation through stimulating artist discussion and performance and is presented in the Guggenheim's Frank Lloyd Wright-designed 285-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater. Each season Works & Process champions new works and offers unprecedented access to leading creators and performers. After most programs, the artists continue the discussion at a reception in the museum's rotunda. Described by the New York Times as 'a popular series devoted to shedding light on the creative process,' Works & Process is produced by founder Mary Sharp Cronson.

Cherry Lane's Fiordellisi to Step Down as Artistic Director in 2011

According to the NY Times, Cherry Lane Theatre's Angelina Fiordellisi, will resign as Artistic Director sometime between March and June of 2011. Additionally, Fiordellisi plans to sell the building, which has been a Greenwich Village staple since 1924, due to ongoing financial struggles.
