Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Reaches Musicians' Endowment Milestone

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra today announced that the organization has raised approximately $17 million of the $25 million goal for its Musicians' Endowment Campaign, meeting the Woodruff Arts Center matching gift goal in less than a year. The Musicians' Endowment Campaign is a key component of the $100 million Transformation Campaign launched by the Woodruff Arts Center in April.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Kicks Off October with Higdon and Beethoven This Weekend

The Grammy Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will start October with three concerts featuring Music Director Robert Spano conducting Jennifer Higdon's Concerto for Orchestra and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, 'Emperor' featuring pianist Jonathan Biss. The performances will take place tonight, October 1, 2015, 8:00 p.m., October 2, 2015, 6:30 p.m. and October 3, 2015, 8:00 p.m. at Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. This is the first weekend of the Orchestra's Mostly Beethoven Festival, which will run through November 21, 2015.

Wedow, Abell, Polianichko and Allen Conduct Lyric Opera of Kansas City's 2015-16 Season, Beginning Tonight

Lyric Opera of Kansas City General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the four conductors for the 2015-2016 season in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Gary Thor Wedow (pictured, left, Mozart's Don Giovanni), and David Charles Abell (Bizet's Carmen) will be returning to the Lyric Opera. Alexander Polianichko (Dvorak's Rusalka) and Christopher Allen (Donizetti's The Elixir of Love) will be making their Lyric Opera debut.

Music Director Robert Spano will conduct the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's premiere of Avner Dorman's Spices, Perfumes, Toxins! and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony tonight and tomorrow, September 24 and September 26, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Cleveland Orchestra Manager Jennifer Barlament Joins Atlanta Symphony as Executive Director

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Board Chair D. Kirk Jamieson today announced that Jennifer Barlament has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Barlament is currently the General Manager of The Cleveland Orchestra. She will begin in January 2016. She was selected after an international search overseen by a committee appointed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Board of Directors, led by Vice Chair Tom Wardell.

APOLLO'S FIRE Announces 24th Season Under Music Director Jeannette Sorrell

Apollo's Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, proudly announces its 24th season under Music Director Jeannette Sorrell.  Fresh from a series of highly prestigious international engagements this summer, Apollo's Fire enters a new era as one of Northeast Ohio's two world-class orchestras.  Following the ensemble's triumphant debut at the Tanglewood Festival in July, the press remarked simply: “Apollo's Fire conquered Tanglewood. The encore truly brought the house down.” (The Boston Music Intelligencer).  With AF's  already sold-out BBC Proms and Aldeburgh Festival debuts both slated for this August, “Apollo's Fire under the direction of Sorrell has put Cleveland firmly on the period-performance map” (The New Yorker). Cleveland's Baroque orchestra is setting the classical world Aflame. Surely some of those [tour audiences] are now jealous of Cleveland” (The Cleveland Plain Dealer).

WEST SIDE STORY, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, STAR WARS Among Lineup for ASO's 9/27 Concert

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform an American Salute at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park on Sunday, September 27, 2015, 7:00 p.m. ASO Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Orchestra in a program of American classics, including selections from Bernstein's West Side Story and Candide, Gershwin's An American in Paris, John Williams' Star Wars, and other American musical selections.
