Jonathan Leshnoff's MONICA SONGS Tour Opens this Sunday at U.C. Berkeley

Baltimore-based composer Jonathan Leshnoff's newest commissioned work, Monica Songs, featuring soprano Jessica Rivera and pianist Robert Spano, will receive its world premiere performance on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at U.C. Berkeley. The performance launches the five-city tour of this work, which also includes performances on Oct. 17 at Bailey Hall, Atlanta, Oct. 20 at Smothers Theatre, Malibu, Calif., Oct. 26 at Memorial Hall, Cincinnati and culminates in a performance on Oct. 29 at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York. Alan Gilbert Leads the NY Phil in Britten's 100th Birthday Celebration, 11/21

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in a celebration of the centennial of English composer, conductor, and pianist Benjamin Britten. The program will include Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, featuring tenor Paul Appleby and Philharmonic Principal Horn Philip Myers, and Britten's Spring Symphony, with soprano Kate Royal (in her Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Philharmonic subscription debut), tenor Paul Appleby, New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, and Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun-Menaker. The concerts, which include a performance on the composer's 100th birthday, November 22, will take place Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 23 at 8:00 p.m.

ASO & Georgia Public Broadcasting to Partner for Robert Shaw Musical Tribute, 11/10

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting and the producers of the documentary film, Robert Shaw: Man of Many Voices, will host "Stars Shine on Shaw" - a musical tribute celebrating the life and legacy of former ASO Music Director Robert Shaw - on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Robert Spano to Lead ASO in Performances of CARMINA BURANA, 11/14-16

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of Music Director Robert Spano, will perform Orff's Carmina burana November 14-15, 2013, at 8:00 p.m.and November 16, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. The work will also feature soprano Kiera Duffy, tenor Marco Panuccio, baritone Nmon Ford, and the Gwinnett Young Singers.

Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche to Remain with BSO Through 2013-14 Season

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and the Peabody Conservatory announced today that BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche will extend her appointment through the 2013-2014 season. Ms. Arrieche began her Fellowship at the start of the 2012-2013 season, receiving a full tuition scholarship to complete a one-year artist diploma program at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. Now that Ms. Arrieche has completed her degree, the fellowship has been restructured to include a larger level of commitment to conducting at the BSO.

Robert Spano & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Opens 2013-14 Season Tonight

Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the 2013-14 Season opening weekend performances tonight, September 26 and 27, 2013, at 8:00 p.m.,and September 28, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. These concerts will mark the beginning of the Orchestra's 69th season and the 13th year of artistic partnership between Mr. Spano and Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Reveals New Acoustical Shell

Today, Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) arrived at Atlanta Symphony Hall for the first rehearsals to prepare for the opening of the 2013-14 season. There has been one significant change - the stage of Symphony Hall has undergone a major acoustical renovation this summer.

New York Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Joshua Weilerstein will make his Philharmonic subscription debut conducting Osvaldo Golijov's Last Round; Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, featuring violinist Arabella Steinbacher, also in her Philharmonic debut; and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8, Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Carnegie Hall Presents Three New York Premieres Performed by Jessica Rivera, Kelley O'Connor, and Robert Spano, 10/29

On Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m., sopranoJessica Rivera and mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor are joined by pianist Robert Spanoon a program featuring three New York premieres, two of which are Carnegie Hall co-commissions. Ms. O'Connor and Ms. Rivera have collaborated in concert halls and on modern operatic masterpieces including Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar and John Adams's El Niño. This unique program features Ms. O'Connor performing the New York premiere of David Bruce's That Time With You, a four-song cycle that she co-commissioned with Carnegie Hall. Ms. Rivera sings the New York premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff's Monica Songs, another Carnegie Hall co-commission. Two selections from The Kitchen Songbook by Gabriela Lena Frank will also have their New York debuts, sung by both Ms. O'Connor and Ms. Rivera. Completing this diverse program, the artists present vocal duets by Saint-Saens, Mendelssohn, and Gounod, as well as Debussy's erotically charged Chansons de Bilitis and Mompou's haunting "Combat del Somni."
