Kelley O'Connor to Perform with Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, 5/8

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Kelley O'Connor will perform the evocative Neruda Songs by the American composer Peter Lieberson in concerts with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 8pm. Music Director José-Luis Novo will also conduct the orchestra in theManfred Overture by Robert Schumann and Symphony No. 5 by Jean Sibelius.

Cincinnati Symphony Welcomes AZ Opera's Keitaro Harada as Associate Conductor

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announced that Keitaro Harada will join the CSO staff as Associate Conductor beginning in September 2015. Mr. Harada's duties will include assisting the conductors of the CSO, Cincinnati Pops and May Festival, conducting for all Young People's Concerts, the World Piano Competition, as well as select Lollipops, Pops subscription concerts and other local/regional performances, and representing the Orchestra in community engagement initiatives.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Open Season with All-Star CANDIDE, 6/11

Baltimore, Md. (March 23, 2015) — For the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop lead the BSO premiere of Leonard Bernstein's comedic operetta Candide on June 11 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and June 12 through June 14 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The BSO announced today that the semi-staged production of Candide will be directed by Garnett Bruce and features an all-star cast including Peter Sagal, the host of NPR's weekly current events quiz show “Wait Wait…Don't Tell Me,” and Judy Kaye, Tony Award-winning star of The Phantom of the Opera. Rounding out the cast are Keith Jameson, Lauren Snouffer, Joshua Hopkins, Mark Diamond, Marie Lenormand, Stephanie Sadownik, Curtis Bannister, Patrick Cook, Andrew McLaughlin, Melissa Wimbish and Lewis Shaw.

NY Phil Conductor Joshua Weilerstein Will LA Chamber Orch in West Coast Premiere

Two profoundly gifted 27-year-old classical music artists make their highly anticipated Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra debuts when New York Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Joshua Weilerstein, 'one of the most promising podium presences of his generation' (Los Angeles Times), conducts Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1 featuring International Tchaikovsky Competition winner Narek Hakhnazaryan, a 'phenomenal cellist (who) produces a powerful and colorful sound... and flashes virtuoso tricks with insolent ease' (The Washington Post), on Saturday, April 18, 2015, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, April 19, 2015, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. Weilerstein, who won the prestigious 2009 Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen, Denmark, at age 21, also conducts Mozart's Symphony No. 41, 'Jupiter,' and the West Coast premiere of imagined landscapes: six Lovecraftian elsewheres, inspired by the horror fiction of H. P. Lovecraft, by composer Joseph Hallman, named one of the top composers under 40 by National Public Radio.

Lynn Harrell to Join ASO for Dvorak Cello Concerto, 3/28

American cellist Lynn Harrell will join the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Music Director Robert Spano to perform the Dvo?ak Cello Concerto Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 8:00 p.m., and Friday, March 27, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. at Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. The program will also include Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4.

Conductor-in-Residence Cristian Macelaru Leads Philadelphia Orchestra This Weekend

The Philadelphia Orchestra's conductor-in-residence, Cristian Macelaru, replaces Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos for three concerts this weekend, March 12, 13, and 14 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Fruhbeck, who last season celebrated conducting more than 150 concerts with the Orchestra in Philadelphia, passed away in June.

Baryshnikov Arts Center to Continue Anniversary Season with Three Concerts

New York, NY – The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its 10th anniversary celebratory season with three concerts in April, reflecting BAC's expanded series of music programming for 2015. The weeklong celebration begins Monday, April 6 at 7:30pm, with one of BAC's signature events – a BAC Salon – in the Howard Gilman Performance Space, featuring the chamber music of Berio, Cage, and Mozart in an intimate salon setting. On Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30pm, composer and jazz pianist Stephen Prutsman will perform the entirety of his album Passengers for the first time ever, in another BAC Salon in the Howard Gilman Performance Space. The final performance of the week, on Saturday, April 11 at 8pm in the Jerome Robbins Theater, features the Latvian National Choir, hailing from BAC Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov's birthplace of Riga and bringing to New York a program that includes music by Arvo Pärt, Grammy nominee Ugis Praulins, and the U.S. premieres of works by acclaimed Latvian composers Jekabs Janchevskis, Gundega Smite, and Raimonds Tiguls. The Latvian National Choir last appeared in New York as part of the 2010 White Light Festival at Lincoln Center, in performances The New York Times described as “ravishing.”

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) regrets to announce that due to illness, guest conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier is unable to conduct this week's performances of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, this weekend, February 27 (Meyerhoff) and February 28 (Strathmore). Replacing Maestro Tortelier, will be BSO Assistant Conductor Nicholas Hersh.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) regrets to announce that due to illness, guest conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier is unable to conduct this week's performances of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, February 27 (Meyerhoff) and 28 (Strathmore). Replacing Maestro Tortelier, will be BSO Assistant Conductor Nicholas Hersh. The program will otherwise remain as scheduled with no changes.
