Brevard Music Center's Summer Festival Presents Asheville's Terpsicorps & New York's WQXR Young Artist's Showcase

The renowned Brevard Music Center (BMC) continues its expansive summer festival offering to western North Carolina audiences with the BMC debuts of Asheville's Terpsicorps (July 17) and New York City's WQXR Young Artists Showcase (July 19). Both performances will be held at Brevard College's Porter Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be ordered online at brevardmusic.org or by calling the BMC Box Office at (828) 862-2105.

'West Side Story' Film To Screen At Brevard Music Center With Live Symphony Orchestra

Brevard Music Center (BMC) will screen the classic American movie musical West Side Story with a full symphony orchestra on Saturday, July 14 at 8:30 PM at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. Conducting the Brevard Sinfonia in Leonard Bernstein's reverent and iconic score will be BMC alumnus Jayce Ogren. Patrons can enjoy a 7:30 PM pre-concert discussion, Bernstein & Justice, held in conjunction with Transylvania's Project Empathy and presented by Joseph Horowitz, a former New York Times music critic, pioneer in thematic interdisciplinary classical music programming, and one of the most prominent and widely published authorities on American music. The New York International Piano Competition Returns to Manhattan School Of Music

The New York International Piano Competition (TheNYIPC), under the auspices of the Stecher & Horowitz Foundtion, returns to Manhattan School of Music for its Ninth Year, June 18 - 22. This biennial event is open to pianists of all nationalities between the ages of 16 to 22. This year, 22 pianists will be competing. No pianist is eliminated throughout the competition's four rounds, a first in the world of competitions.

Boston Pops Announce Spring 2018 Season

The 2018 Boston Pops spring season, May 9-June 16, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, will celebrate the centennial of Leonard Bernstein, one of the greatest international musical figures of the last century-an iconic American musician whose multidimensional talents spanning the worlds of composition, performance, education and conducting greatly influenced the culture at large throughout the mid- and late-20th century, resulting in a legacy that is sure to inspire music lovers far and wide for countless generations to come.  The Boston Pops has an especially proud association with Leonard Bernstein, as he made his professional orchestra conducting debut leading the ensemble during a performance in the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade in 1941, on the cusp of establishing himself as one of the foremost musicians the country had ever seen.

Inaugural Wadsworth Piano Competition Announces Semi-Finalists For April 2018 Competition

The Charles Wadsworth Piano Competition (CWPC) today announces the eight semi-finalists chosen to compete in the inaugural competition held at The Donald W. Nixon Centre for the Visual and Performing Arts in Newnan, GA: Nadia Azzi (Colburn School, CA), Hilda Huang (Yale University, CT), Aristo Sham (Harvard University, MA), Zhiheng Guo (Manhattan School of Music, NY), Dominic Cheli (Colburn School, CA), Michael Davidman (Curtis Institute of Music, PA), Angie Zhang (The Juilliard School, NY), Peng Lin (The Juilliard School, NY).

Brevard Music Center Announces 2018 Summer Festival Season

This summer, over a ten-week period spanning June to August, Brevard Music Center (BMC) offers more than eighty performances and events amid the scenic beauty of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. Led by Artistic Director Keith Lockhart, the 2018 BMC Summer Music Festival provides audiences an exceptional array of symphony, opera, chamber, pops, jazz, bluegrass, dance, and folk performances including symphonic masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky; piano virtuosos Olga Kern and Conrad Tao; bluegrass legends Steep Canyon Rangers and Bela Fleck; BMC Presents artists including The Manhattan Transfer and Asheville dance troupe Terpsicorps; a season-long Festival Within a Festival celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein; a Rock Violin Concerto featuring R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, and a family-friendly night at the movies with West Side Story on the big screen, accompanied by a live symphony.

NYC Monuments Inspire Original Musicals 2/3 At The TimesCenter

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, will present MONUMENT, a collection of new mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's 2018 Musical Theater Lab. MONUMENT, the company's 12th lab performance, will be presented on February 3, 2018 at 8pm at The TimesCenter (242 West 41st, NYC).

Music Mondays Features Performances And Lively Conversations With Renowned Performers, Artists and Conductors

Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning's popular Music Mondays series features informal performances and lively conversations with renowned performers and conductors. Monday Music sessions are held on Mondays through March 26. The morning sessions, hosted by Edward Alley, are 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Palms, 3224 Bee Ridge Road. THE UNFLINCHING GAZE Exhibition Comes to BRAG

BWW Review: Jolly Good MARY POPPINS Flies Into Musical Theatre West
