Without a doubt, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is Utah's most frequently performed musical. It's hard not to find one of the ubiquitous stagings, from high schools to large community theater companies all across the state. So the challenge is to make JOSEPH fresh and new when audiences are already familiar with the sight gags and punchlines before entering the theater, if not also all the lyrics to each of the songs.

With exactly six months until Day One of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Sundance Institute today detailed a standalone Episodic section, the return of 'The New Climate' strand of environmental work and a new award. Feature film, short film, episodic and Virtual Reality submissions are now being accepted via Withoutabox, with early deadlines beginning August 7; more information about submissions and deadlines is at sundance.org/submit.

Acting Company and Creative Advisors Join Sundance Institute's 2017 Theatre Lab at Sundance Resort

Sundance Institute's Theatre Lab kicks off today with the announcement of this year's participating acting company and creative advisors. The Lab, which runs through July 30 at the Sundance Resort in Utah, is supervised by Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, and is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community. It's one of 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content.

Ah, we all love rom coms. But decades prior to the term becoming part of contemporary lexicon…. there was BAREFOOT IN THE PARK. Those of a certain baby boomer age all know Robert Redford and Jane Fonda were in the movie. However, we must stretch back even farther to see that the Sundance Kid and Elizabeth Ashley premiered the show on Broadway in (cough) 1963.

Full casting details for the smash summer musical Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story have been announced prior to runs at both Bucks County Playhouse and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Details of the performers, who will appear in both presentations, were released by Bucks County Playhouse's Executive Producer Robyn Goodman, Producing Director Alex Fraser, and Producers Stephen Kocis and Josh Fiedler. Directed by Tony nominee Hunter Foster with choreography by Lorin Latarro, Buddy will first run at the Bucks County Playhouse from May 27 through June 17 and will then transfer to the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater on June 24 for previews, with the official opening June 28. The show will run at the Kimmel Center through July 9.
