Kennedy Center Shines a Spotlight on International Directors

This spring, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing arts highlights the work of five of the theater's preeminent directors from across the globe: Robert Lepage, Carlos Diaz, Sulayman Al Bassam, Peter Brook, and Lev Dodin. Kennedy Center audiences will experience a theatrical feast of visionary productions of both classic and contemporary plays offering a truly global perspective on theater today.

The International Opera Awards Announces Finalists

With more than 20,000 nominations made, the International Opera Awards is pleased to announce the finalists for this year's Awards. These were selected by an international jury chaired by John Allison, editor of Opera magazine and classical music critic with The Daily Telegraph, 'Once again, it was both a challenge and a pleasure for us to produce these shortlists, and I am very grateful to our distinguished jury. The quality of the nominations-received in record numbers this year-was very high, and I hope our lists prove that for all the difficulties faced by the world's opera companies, opera is in fact in a healthy and vibrant state.'

Luisi Returns to Philly Orch, SFS, Tours with Voigt and Danish National Symphony

Fabio Luisi This winter and spring, Grammy and ECHO Klassik Award-winning conductor Fabio Luisi looks forward to several high-profile guest conducting appearances, including return engagements with the Philadelphia Orchestra - to help celebrate 'Andre Watts's 60-Year Legacy' - and the San Francisco Symphony, as well as a return to conduct two different programs with the London Symphony. He also tours California with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DNSO), of which he is the newly appointed Principal Conductor, with concerts featuring beloved soprano Deborah Voigt; and tours Europe with Philharmonia Zurich and special guest Anne-Sophie Mutter. Rounding out the conductor's busy season are concerts with Japan's NHK Symphony in Tokyo; returns to Filarmonica della Scala and the Munich Philharmonic; and a concert at Florence's Opera di Firenze, where Luisi assumes the post of Music Director starting in the spring of 2018.

The Warner Theatre's 2016-17 Met Opera: Live in HD Season continues with an encore presentation of Saariaho's L'AMOUR DE LOIN in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre on Saturday, February 4, at 12:55 pm. A complimentary pre-opera lecture will be offered to all ticket holders in the Nancy Marine Studio Lobby for 45 minutes of pre-opera information and entertainment, 2 hours before broadcast.
