The Metropolitan Opera's 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, will feature 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th century masterpieces to one of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. Repertoire for the company's 132nd season will include the Met premiere of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's 2000 opera L'Amour de Loin, as well as new stagings of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Rossini's Guillaume Tell, Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, Dvo?ak's Rusalka, and Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. A gala concert on May 7, 2017 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's Lincoln Center location with performances by opera's leading stars honoring the Met's past and future. Ticket prices will not increase, remaining the same as in the current season, and audience development programs instituted by the company in recent years will continue.

(March 23, 2015) - For the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop lead the BSO premiere of Leonard Bernstein's comedic operetta Candide tonight, June 11 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and June 12 through June 14 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The BSO announced today that the semi-staged production of Candide will be directed by Garnett Bruce and features an all-star cast including Peter Sagal, the host of NPR's weekly current events quiz show "Wait Wait…Don't Tell Me," and Judy Kaye, Tony Award-winning star of The Phantom of the Opera. The Harris Theater for Music and Dance today confirmed that a major event of the 2014-2015 Harris Theater Presents season will be the North American debut performance of the Turin, Italy-based Teatro Regio Torino orchestra and chorus, under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Gianandrea Noseda. Teatro Regio Torino will open its first-ever North American tour at the Harris Theater on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 7PM with a historic, one-night-only concert performance of Gioachino Rossini's opera William Tell. Teatro Regio Torino's four-stop tour-with performances in Chicago, Ann Arbor, Toronto, and New York's Carnegie Hall-also marks the first time an Italian opera house will tour an opera in concert form in North America. The December 3 production will feature soprano Angela Meade as Matilde, tenor John Osborn as Arnoldo, and baritone Fabio Capitanucci in the title role of Guglielmo Tell. Century old high jewelry house Buccellati, which recently opened a boutique on Oak Street, will be one of the sponsors for the debut performance at the Harris Theater.
