The 11th season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE came to a thrilling conclusion tonight when Ricky Ubeda was named the winner during the live two-hour Season Finale on FOX.
Whoooooooa, this is it! All of the voters have voted, the competitive dances have been danced, the, 'Shut your face's have been shut your faced; tonight was SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE's 11th season finale. And though, as in the last two years, we had four dancers still standing at the beginning of the night, for the first time since 2011, there was only one winner announced. Gone are the days of not having to choose between our favorite male and female dancers; this time, only one gets to take home the title of 'America's Favorite Dancer.'
Last night Zack Everhart, Jessica Richens, Valerie Rockey and Ricky Ubeda, the Top Four on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, brought the competition to a new level as they each performed three routines plus a solo number, in the hopes of walking away with the coveted title of America's Favorite Dancer!
This is easily the most excited I have been for an episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE all season. Even though I picked three of the four finalists as major contenders when the Top-20 was announced (and five of the final six, thank you you very much), this is definitely not the Final Four (Zack Everhart, Jessica Richens, Valerie Rockey and Ricky Ubeda) that I thought we would have just a few weeks ago. That being said, each has managed to have a breathtaking moment or four, however, with the exception of Ricky, each has also had their share of missteps as well.
Tonight, Aug. 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), on FOX, the Top Four - Zack Everhart, Jessica Richens, Valerie Rockey and Ricky Ubeda - will be paired up with All-Star Partners to perform for America's votes, leading up to the highly-anticipated Season Finale airing Wednesday, Sept. 3 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).
And then there were six. We are just two weeks away from the Season 11 (and possibly series) finale of 'So You Think You Can Dance,' and even though this isn't the six remaining dancers I thought we would have just a few weeks ago, that doesn't mean that the talent still on hand isn't as exciting as ever. With last week's surprising eliminations of Tanisha (that one still brings a tinge of anger) and Rudy, the field is slightly more open for dancers to claim a spot in the finale. Though Ricky is still the leader in the clubhouse in terms of guys, the girls' race is suddenly wide-open.

During his decade at the helm of 'American Idol,' Nigel Lythgoe beat the idea of theme weeks into a bloody, self-parodying pulp. However, tonight, Uncle Nigel is bringing a theme to 'So You Think You Can Dance' for the first time (as far as I can remember); and it is one that I can actually get behind. For tonight's Top-8 edition, each routine will be performed to a Michael Jackson song; either one of his classics, or a single from his 'new' album 'XScape.'
This week on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, Wednesday, Aug. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), Michael Jackson's new single, “A Place With No Name,” from this year's critically acclaimed, chart-topping album “XScape,” will be featured in the Top Eight group performance, as will a preview of the song's never-before-seen music video. In addition, each of the Top Eight performances will feature a Michael Jackson song, either one of his classics or from his current album, “Xscape.”

Well, if you weren't fully invested in Season 11 of 'So You Think You Can Dance' yet, tonight is the night to dive-in head first. With the Top-10 being joined by an incredible cast of All-Stars, this week's episode brought about as much excitement as a dance fan can handle. Each dancer was, more or less, paired with an All-Star inside their genre, and nearly all of the 10 couples delivered excellent routines. That being said, a few left me disappointed.
